I was out of town on a road trip & engaged my E locker (heard it click on) and now not turn off. I don't hear anything when I press the botton, but I can tell it is engaged at low speeds. Help?

Work it through the gears, forwards and backwards, disconnect the electrical at the locker, hammer on it (gently), remove the locker.

Generally speaking, with the Yota e-lockers, one of the best ways I've found to get them to engage and disengage is on a dirt road or gravel or in water, to drive somewhat tight figure 8s slowly switching the right and left etc. This should allow the splines on the axle shafts and the sliding locking collar/sleeve their best bet to free up.

I've tried turning and going forward & backwards, gently hit the unit with a hammer a few times. On my dash, it does not display that it is engaged. When I attempt to turn on/off, the light only flashes with no noise from the rear end whatsoever. I also have done the grey wire mod, not that it should have an effect on this (it worked perfectly prior to this, I can only think it got hung up?) Also, I had to drive pretty far with it engaged...

If your out on the trail I'd (carefully) jack both rear tires off the ground (terrain permitting) and verify the locker engagement by spinning one tire, and seeing if the other tire rotates the same direction.

Did you wheel it hard when you engaged the locker last? Only reason I ask, it's rare but happens, the splines can twist and not allow disengagement of the locking sleeve.

I wasn't wheeling hard. I backed up into a little mud(yes, only a little), attempted to get it to engage with no luck. Drove off a few minutes later to realize it was engaged (while the light on the dash is off)

I wouldn't think scenario I mentioned would happen in mud, unless you hit a patch of traction while in the mud.

Can you hear the locker actuator working? How comfortable are you turning a wrench?

It was a tiny but if mud on a dirt/gravel road. Perfectly fine to be in 2wd. Just wanted to see how the locker worked (it had been before I lifted the truck since I used it last) thinking now, wasn't the best time to do it.

I do not hear the actuator at all. I'm fine with wrenching on it if needed.

I'd think next step is to verify that you're getting juice to the actuator with a voltmeter, obviously locker button needs to be turned on. If actuator is getting juice and still not releasing the locking collar, time to pull the actuator and take a peek.

There is a specific procedure for dealing with the actuator. Follow the FSM. If you don't have it, try and get it from someone on here. Digital copy.

Someone might've already done a write up on here also. Might be worth doing some searching on the forum, if you haven't already.

Well I got it working after playing with the electrical. I could hear the actuator now. (never pulled off the actuator) Got it engaged, disengaged, engaged, disengaged, etc. Put it back together, locked it into position and stuck again. Just out of curiosity, what is that little black hose that runs close to the wires? Appears to be a vacuum line?

So I disconnected & reconnected the cables a couple times while engaging the rear locker and got everything working again. Tested it offroad a handful of times and seems to be working normal.

Thanks for the help guys. Tried it a couple more times and all seems well. If I'm given any further issues, I know where to look!

Just wanted to add this to the thread for those seeking the answer in my situation. I replaced the third member with 4.56 gears. Finishing the job I went on a test drive. Locker was engaged. Wouldn't unlock. When installing the new gears make sure the locker is disengaged before reinstalling actuator. You will be out of sync. actuator is disengaged and locker engaged. If installed wrong jack the truck up, remove actuator, roll the driver side wheel and slide the locker gear off with a screwdriver . Reinstall.
