Some of you may be interested in this. I discovered a way to lock my truck while its running.
When you exit a running vehicle, push the door lock button on the armrest and the door open button on the pillar and you can now close the door and it remains locked.
During the winter here in AK its nice to let the truck warm up and have it locked, also handy in the summertime and if going into a store for something quick and you want to leave it running. You may have to change your door lock settings. Mine are set so they do not automatically lock when I start driving and all doors unlock at the same time.
Its a nice feature when its minus 40 outside.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I may be a noob when it comes to labels of vehicle components, but please explain further.
I know the Door Lock button on the armrest, but I'm not clear what you mean when referring to the "door open button on the pillar".

I think he is talking about the press switch inside the door frame that tells the truck if the door is open or not. if you are sitting in the drivers seat with the door open reach back into the chassis door frame with your left hand and you will feel the rubber cover over the switch. the door itself pushes in on the switch when the door is closed.

I think this would only be pertinent if you have a smart key, which I am not that fond of.

The mechanical part, where the door locks to the cab frame. Since the mechanism is closed and you press the door.

Should have no issues, it’s basically the same thing as when you lock and unlock your vehicle when it’s on and you’re sitting inside of it. Your truck was designed to do that. Default is set to unlock when put into park and lock when put into drive out of the factory.

Unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying.

Ok, I am not tripping the door lock mechanism. I am just pushing and releasing the button and operating the switch that indicates to the vehicle whether the door is open or closed. The only thing the operator would notice is the interior lights go on/off. However the switch is also communicating with the vehicle's computer. IOW, you can lock unlock the doors from the drivers seat when the door is closed. As soon as you open the door you can no longer lock the door if the engine is running. If you hit the lock button it will momentarily lock the door and then immediately unlock it. Pushing the button on the jamb defeats this and allows you to lock the doors with the engine running.

So your saying that after "fooling" the ECU, the mechanism doesn't actuated and your not smashing it against the receiving end of the door frame?

I press the door jamb switch to stop the chime when I have the door open and I have the ignition in ACC or ON so it's probably the same thing. Nothing mechanical happens it's just an acknowledgement.

Not smashing anything just simply closing the door. I doubt I could fool the ecu... I am not sure why it works, but it does.

So you haven't looked at or heard the lock actuate at all. I ask, because the door unlock input is inside the lock mechanism.
    upload_2022-6-23_19-8-43.jpg
Once you press lock, the locking solenoid actuates making a distinctive sound. This in turn prevents the door lock mechanism from engaging the frame receiver.
I'm thinking there's a part inside the locking mechanism that doesn't engage to prevent damage. Maybe:stirthepot:

Seems simpler just to move out of AK to someplace with a tad more moderate climate :)
