Just bought a ‘21 Tacoma and no one has any locking gas caps that fit this model? Also, wanting to match my back bumper to my front one that is color keyed. Have seen some things on Bumpershellz but was wondering if anyone had experience with them?

I was the one that did a test for bumpershellz on my 2nd gen a few yrs ago. They were below average then. I ended up replacing my bumper to color match. They maybe different for 3rd gens but it might be easier to paint or get color matched bumper caps for yours

I was thinking of getting the Stant locking gas cap, but it doesn't have provision for the factory tether. So, the chances of losing it entirely are greater. That, plus the reported possibility of triggering a "check engine" light, makes me hesitant. (I have a Stant locking gas cap on my 2000 Ford Ranger, but it uses the factory tether. No fault codes in 21 years.)

Stop smoking the weed. If you need a tether so you don't lose your cap something is not right.

Bumpershellz are awesome. Pricey but easy on and look good.

$15 and no check engine light for 3 years. Toss ur old gas cap in the cubby if ur worried about throwing a code. But yes, the gas cap ring doesn't fit on the locking cap.

I've wondered about how well moisture stays out from between the shell and the bumper. Plus there's sticker residue if you ever take them off. I have a couple cans of hyper dip and a coating spray to go over that I'm going to try once it warms up.

I had a cheap Amazon locking gas cap before, and once during a snow storm I needed to refuel, but the key hole was frozen shut. Buy a quality one because a cheap one could leave you stranded.

It was only held on my 3m double sided tape and a few under bumper bolts but it left a space between the bumper and the plastic bumper cover

I'd get ice and salt trapped between there in my neck of the woods. Over time it might not be great.

I did not color match but went with the black ones to match my bumper. The install was easy and they matched perfect. IMG_3013.jpg

The Meso Gasshole is a great little doohickey. Though here in Oregon roughly zero of the attendants ever use it and just let it hang out and hit the side panel.

I carry deicing spray for my windshield in the winter. A couple of sprays and 5 minutes later it would be fine. You can use a bit of lithium grease just before winter and it will prevent it from freezing up. :) just sayin.

Dang man, can happen to anyone if not prepared. Use dicing, hand sanitizer, or anything with alcohol.

I know that trick, somehow didnt think of it at the moment lol. I just used my breath and rubbed the thing with my glove for a few minutes and I was able to get it eventually.

A customer called and said he couldn’t open his gas cap because he had lost the key, I didn’t understand at first.

He showed up and it was a locking gas cap.

I grabbed his car key and put it in the key hole and opened it.

It was an old Camry, I hope the quality had gotten better.

Nope! A locking gas cap got my 1st gen’s steel tank drilled for gas, just wait until you see what a locking cap will do for your plastic tank...
