Locking gas cap causing check engine light to come on

    none
    howdy bought locking gas cap for 2008 but the engine light came. so l replaced the o ring on the cap for a better seal it was a no go. so what will happen driving with the engine light on?

    It seems to be hit or miss with them. You could try to return or exchange for another.

    2 issues I can think of running with a check engine light lit. 1, dependent on your local laws, you could fail smog or inspection. 2, if another reason for it to light up arises, you won’t know which would leave you constantly wondering.

    The one I got is
    $22 stant 10509 stant regular locking fuel cap, black
    stant 10509.

    Spend the money on a OEM cap. Anything less and you risk random evap codes coming and going

    Did you clear the CEL after changing O ring?

    I guess it is hit or miss. I’ve been using a Honda locking gas cap for the past year and no CEL.

    FWIW 2010 Element

    I use it since my truck is outside all the time

    Is the CEL due to the gas cap though? Unless you can read the code off OBD, you won't know for sure.
