Locking Gas Cap for the Gen 3 Tacoma

Been testing this locking gas cap out, no check engine light. Have been through 3 tanks of fuel so far without any issues. I read all the posts I could find on a Stant locking gas cap, everything pointed to the model 10504. All the ones I located at the auto parts stores did not have the signature S for authentic Stant brand. I found this on eBay as an original Stant 11504 which is the new Identity for the 10504.

 

But gas is $1.99 a gallon right?

Who would steal gas when it's at rock bottom. We've never seen gas this low before.
I was pumping gas the other day and a man came up to me with tears in his eyes, praising the $1.99 a gallon.

 

It's not just to prevent people from siphoning your gas. And gas isn't $1.99 a gallon.

 

Hello 2021SR5V64WD. Fuel prices are rising in my area, upwards of close to $3.75 per gallon of the regular. It's more of a safety feature for the fuel system and engine. I prefer the locking fuel door but the cap will be fine.

 

Hello and thank you Alex the Great. A buddy had $15K in repairs to his F250 diesel, someone added something through his fuel filler tube. Instant Sabotage. He is a contractor and they make enemies on the job sites. I figured someone would appreciate the information on the locking gas cap and I haven't contributed in a couple years. I had traded in our Tacoma on a 4Runner as a grandchild hauler. Now I'm back in a Tacoma .

 

please tell me where I can buy gas for $1.99 per gallon… not liter

I have a locking gas cap to keep funny stuff out of my tank. I used to work at a high school and would find empty pizza boxes in my open bed and gum stuck to my cab. I parked one car length from a trash can too, so I think it was kids just being lazy.

I have the Stant on the left of post #61. No CEL in 9 years.

Yea we are approaching $3.75 a gallon here too, seems to be going up 5-10 cents a week.
I suspect we'll see $4.00 in the Phoenix area in a few weeks or so.

About 8 months ago I saw $2.xx and almost crashed into the back of someone gawking at that price LOL..

 

They can't siphon gas it has a anti siphon block. Found this out when i tried to get gas out of my truck for generator when we had no electricity for 6 days after the fire here in lahaina.

 

You can siphon it with fish tank air tubing with the tip cut into a sharp point.

Else fuel thieves can cut an access hole in the filler neck pipe behind the fender, or drill a hole your tank. That’s what they did to my 1st gen after they drilled holes into my locking gas cap and still couldn’t open it.

 

Current President insisted it was that price not long ago.

A Tacoma sits so high bad people can slide underneath and drill a hole into our tanks.

I went to my local auto parts store, (family owned) they check for Stant: 11504 locking gas cap, interchanged to

$19 Gates 31780 Gates 94-01 Acura Integra / 91-95 Legend Locking Fuel Cap, Black

Gates 31780, apparently no more Stant in stock. It is not the cheapo Chinesium brand, list price is around $38.00, I got for around $15.00. I installed it, no CEL. Probraly have to drive more to see.

 

Also make sure to click it 3 times when putting back on. That’s what I do and no CEL in 9 years.

 

My bad I could have multi-quote posts. When stupid chithead drill hole in gas tank, lucky no spark from drilling ignite gasoline, BOOM!

 

I was told by parts clerk, to click only one time, when putting back on, and insert, then turn gas cap key. Go from there.

 

Yours may be different than mine. I put mine back on without the key. Here is what my cap says.
