I'm not so much concerned about siphoned gas, more concerned if someone chucks something into my gas tank.. You never know..

Yes, that's why I want a locking gas cap - for the deterrent factor. I don't want people pouring stuff into my tank.

My sons 2013 had someone pour powdered "poweraid" into the fuel tank. (No locking cap) while he was out. Repair bill was $3400.
$10 gas cap is cheap compared to a crazy women.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm looking at getting a Stant 10504 gas cap - the factory one has a groove around the circumference for the plastic cord that lets the factory gas cap dangle during fill ups. Does the stant have the same?

I read on here that our filler necks have an anti syphon screen inside them that a tube cannot get past.

Yeah that's nice. I guess i'm just a bit worried about sugar in the gas tank pranks.

No, but you may be able to slip the cord over the Stant. It fits on the Gates 31842. Problem is it doesn't spin so it can be tricky to tighten the cap. With a little practice one learns to overcome this shortcoming.

I've been rolling with a Stant for years. It's basically a deterrent, not foolproof, kind of like a hose clamp on the tailgate. The only problem I've had is gas jocks that cant figure out how to unlock it or lock it back up. Oregon is one of the last of the die hard gas jock states. You can't pump your own here.

I can understand wanting to prevent gas contamination, but If they want the gas bad enough they will just pop/drill a hole in the tank bottom.

Exactly what I was thinking. Unless you are worried about someone putting something in your tank then a locking cab is unnecessary.

Still a concern, since sugar in the gas tank has always been a concern, not to mention diesel fuel. Hopefully, vandals aren't doing that stuff any more. Thankfully, I've never had a problem.

So what's the verdict on the locking gas caps? What is the best brand?

I walked out to my truck and found the gas door wide open and the cap was loose. I suspect someone was trying to steel my fuel. I live in military housing here in Virginia and supposedly they have section 8 housed residents as well.

I just bought a replacement Stant 10509 for my 06. The first one lasted almost 10 years. Peace of mind for $13.

After the very expensive vandalism of my son's tacoma (2013) he went to a local auto parts store and bought the most expensive one they offered (+- $10). It's been perfect since day one. No , there isn't a lanyard on it.
Also to those that think the fuel can't be siphoned. Be very careful. I have a 2013 double cab prerunner and have always been able to pull fuel out with minimal effort for the mower gas can. It takes a little time to get the tube into the tank, but it's very do-able and I can get fuel flowing into a can within about 5 minutes.
    Just FYI

Went with one from autozone. The stant cap had horrible reviews. $14 for Duralast PN: 5791

Seems sturdy enough. Never owned one before, so I hope it keeps the gas thieves away!

Wow, I found it impossible and I am a bit ashamed to admit I'm somewhat of an expert at the task of siphoning gas tanks.
