I have read that it might make your check engine light on. If it does if I change back to my old cap will the light go away?

I have the Gates brand. No issues with CELs yet. BTW yes the key unlocking sucks big time.

Most of the locking gas caps you'll find are all made of plastic - like your OEM.
No problems with a plastic gas cap, but when you try to put a locking mechanism in all that plastic... makes for a clunky, cheap, locking gas cap.

I had one for a while and ended up taking it out. The key is small & cheap. When you stick the key in it....it doesn't always open smoothly and gets hung up - Like you need to lubricate it constantly. The cap itself never closed or opened smoothly either. If you tried too hard...it felt like it was gonna break.

I hated it... Never had a problem with CEL.

Someone needs to make a STEAL version with a smooth & nicely crafted locking mechanism. It'd be expensive as shit.....but I'd consider buying one!

Somebody here on TW made a pretty cool power locking gas cap door awhile back. He tied it into his key-less setup so it would lock with the door locks.

If the people at Toyota weren't smoking weeds while at their jobs, we wouldn't even have this type of questions.

Are you sure you need a locking gas cap???? I tried to syphon some gas out of the wife's corolla before she traded it in and I was unable to get the hose down into the gas far enough to syphon any gas... she was 3/4 full at the time...

My brother says they have a screen in the bottom of the hose that stops your syphon hose from making it down there....

    I don't know... just a question....

Try syphoning your own gas..... you'll find out fast, I'm sure...

A locking cap will only prevent someone from putting something in the tank. There's a rollover valve in the filler tube that prevents inserting a hose to siphon the gas. Many gas stealers nowadays just drill a hole in the bottom of the tank.

    Not that I know of.....

It'd be nice if Toyota designed a gas door that you open from inside the truck - like most other vehicles on the road! :D

You wouldn't want to see society's scumbags pour salts in your gas tank for their own enjoyment.

I have one on my 2011. Never had any issues or problems with CEL or taking it off. I bought a Stant which boasts it seals like OEM. My old 2006 was even easier to take off since it wasn't a screw on/of. It was a 1/4 turn on/off.
