Can anyone recommend a good quality locking handle replacement for the tailgate on a 2013 Tacoma?

    Thanks.

Honestly, locks only keep honest people honest. If they really want in, they will get in.

Mine works. Feel like it's gonna break one day. But will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Right. You can get into any vehicle if you really want to. I think my question is more along the lines of: are they total crap or are they a reasonable product?

They are reasonable, and the only real option.

They are ok, just make sure you have a backup plan in place for when/if it fails with your tailgate locked ( especially if you have a tonneau cover).

Me, I have a tonneau cover and attached a piece of string that runs to a covered place that only I know of that I can pull to open the cover, then I removed the screws on both sides of the tailgate inside cover, so all I would need to do is unscrew the middle screws on the tailgate cover to get access to the latch.

What do you have over it? Topper? Hard tonneau?

Mine has acted up randomly, some days it unlocks, some days it doesn't. And when it doesn't, it's when I need to open the tailgate the worst

havent had any problems with mine although i havent tried to pull too hard on it and i have had it like 2 years or so. wouldn't hurt to also put some sort of lock around the bottom of the tailgate on both sides like a hose clamp with a special screw to further prevent theft

I have an ARE cap on it. So if it fails, can I assume I could open the window on the cap and get the tailgate open that way?

you could probably take of the plastic with it still closed then take out the two bars that go into the lock and pull them together by hand and that should open the tailgate

Are you talking about a locking handle or electric tailgate lock. Dynolock also makes an electric lock, similar to the P&L.
