Locking rear Diferential Question.

    lucky..... oh well thats why we(1st gen) buy 4x4's( and some mud/rock crawler tires help a little bit:D)

    i have a 99 prerunner and my rear differential wont seem to lock the light blinks but it wont lock how can i get it to lock

    op I have a Detroit TruTrac (mechanical LSD) in my truck and works great I always have the Auto LSD and VSC button off when Im driving .

    So you replaced the factory diff in a 2011 with an aftermarket LSD?

    So you had ATRAC and didnt like it and wanted to upgrade basically?
    Is the Detroit a selectable? What was cost if you don't mind?

    Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
    ATRAC is only w/ the TRD ORs w/ the stock locker. he didnt have that. any mechanical LSD is non-selectable.

    Just have the SR5 so I just had electronic lsd and vsc (brakes and engine). Detroit is mechanical only so there is not selectable. It works effortlesly and I love it.

    I have stock LSD in my SR5 and did my first offroading this past weekend. Didn't plan to do much but the Taco just kept performing and next thing I knew I was climbing super steep long grades that I never dreamed a nearly stock rig could tackle. Several climbs I planned on probably spinning out and having to back out but motored up in 4lo without slipping at all. I was astounded. In this circumstance was the LSD a significant benefit over an open diff? I just figured the LSD was borderline worthless.

    Oh yeah, I knew (thanks to DavidK) that ATRAC was only in ORs. I was equating the electronic brake modulation with it, but that is only for rears in nonOR.

    So for increasing traction and capability would a front locker make good sense as next possible upgrade if one has a good properly functioning LSD in rear.?

    If you can afford it a front locker is great although you will have to get onboad air supply.
