Well since the tacoma doesn't come with a locking tailgate standard. it must be aftermarket. Unless you know the locking tailgate manufacturer, then a locksmith would be your best bet. Make the dealership pay for it as well because they sold you a truck where you cannot unlock the tailgate. That is BS.

They usually have a number on the lock, get the number and try calling Pop n Lock 1-800-342-5911 maybe it's their lock and they can send you out a set of keys.
If not look for a name on the lock and try calling them.

i have the exact same problem... mine's a pop and lock.. but i haven't called them yet... somehow i doubt they'd just send you keys that match... how can they do that without proving 100% that the lock belongs to you...?

Never know unless you try. Worst that can happen is they will say no.
Find a good locksmith & they can make a double sided key.

I was curious so i emailed Pop n Lock
    "Hi,
How would i go about getting an extra set of keys to my 5300, i lost the keys to it.
Would i have to give you the number off of the lock?

    thanks Denis '

    And this was their response
"Yes we will need the code from around the key hole on the lock. Will also need proof of ownership – such
as copy of truck registration or insurance certificate. Visa or Mastercard credit card number, exp. date, security code
and name as it appears on the card. As well as your mailing address.
    Call 1-800-342-5911 Mon – Fri 8:30 – 4:30 p.m. EST to order keys."

This may seem obvious but nobody mentioned it... try the door/ignition key.
