Is the test operation to inflate the airbag? Cause that would be cool testing.
Got to test the subie out this morning on ice. She did fairly well even with the summer tires still on. Would have been more comfortable with the blizzaks though.

Nah that would suck because I’m sitting in the driver seat! It’s just a software update to eliminate some bug they probably found. I’ve got updates for A/C controls, instrument clusters, transmission control modules, engine control modules, etc. Germany and VWOA are pretty on top of the fixes. They got hammered pretty hard on the TDI stuff.

There are many of them being updated and resold. I’ve seen a couple come through the dealership that I was tempted to buy. I’d like to have a white Golf TDI hatch w/ manual trans.

These are not necessarily the style of wheels I’d go with, but here’s an example of what I’m talking about.

The golf is sweet too. I considered the R, but couldnt find one to test drive. GTI would have been close second, but wanted awd. I hope subie brings back the wrx hatch, cause i would trade up for one for sure.

It's funny because since I'm a nerd and notice trivial things I saw a guy I worked with had a TDI around 2010 ish. Weeks went by with zero soot on his exhaust tips. Not from washing, just ultra clean burning.
My F250 with a 7.3 diesel had soot as soon as you started it. Tacoma doesnt take long either.

Seems like VW got the shaft for something already well engineered and clean burning.

My wrx gets sooty at the tips as well pretty quick after a wash. In my case, i am guessing it runs pretty rich in boost. I dont have an afr reader to confirm this though. Its stock too. Only thing i have added to the engine is an AOS which if anything I would think would help keep the soot minimized.

I’m still not a diesel expert, but many times what I’m seeing on these is the owner doesn’t regularly drive far enough for the ECM to complete regular regens. Or there’s an air leak somewhere so the ECM thinks it’s lean and adds fuel (runs rich). There’s also a variable exhaust flap motor that can get stuck and it causes some weird stuff too.

An interesting fact on these cars is that the EGR cooler is downstream from the heater core. The heater core can become clogged and the EGR cooler doesn’t get enough coolant flow. People come in with a check engine light P2457 and we tell them the heater core is bad. People can’t grasp how their heater is causing a check engine light, lol. It’s good to flush the coolant!

Ford had a huge ordeal with the 6 liter diesel. The egr coolers would clog then restrict coolant flow through the engine. They had a massive amount of warranty claims. I think a change of coolant type was the big fix.

Done deal. Now I’m thinking about other back yard upgrades like a covered patio and building a bigger badder shed.
