    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly a 1998 SR5 PU, 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
For those of us who tow, physics really answers this issue - a trailer tongue weight is the load portion of a 3rd-class lever, the rear springs and rear wheels are the effort keeping the load up, and the front wheels are the fulcrum. The further the load (trailer tongue weight) is from the fulcrum (front wheels) (Li + Lo) the greater the effort (rear springs and wheels) must be to support the load - also, the further the load is from the effort (Lo), the greater the effort must be to support the load, thus the springs and rear wheels on a short bed undergo less downward force from the load than those of the long bed.

A short bed may be a better choice for towing heavier trailers, as the tongue weight will be more equally balanced between the front and rear wheels, and the rear wheels and springs will require less effort to support the tongue weight than those of a long bed.

Longer wheelbase tracks better, provides greater stability especially if the trailer is subjected to crosswinds.

I haul a 2000 lb trailer/boat occasionally. Works fine. My former truck was Z71 1/2 ton AC. I do notice the vehicle weight difference but the stability not much. Really happy with this truck. never hauled with a DCSB so I have no comps there.

You can haul the same amount of plywood and drywall in the 5ft bed..... ok, maybe a coupld of sheets less of drywall as you should probably stick some 2X4s and plywood to support, but seriously, I've been hauling all kinds of stuff in my 5ft bed (my house flooded in 2016 and I'm rebuilding, I've hauled a bit in it).

With the Tailgate Closed, but yeah, that is one thing that makes me wish I had a LB.

Same way that dudes with a short bed think that they have millions of unlocked acres in the wilderness, that guys with a long bed can’t get to.....

Yeah, longer wheelbase wins hands down for towing. Engine/trans at the front have more leverage against trailer at the rear pivoting around the rear axle. Tongue weight should only be 5-600lbs max so nothing huge there.

Lol, my long bed hauls a lot of plywood and drywall .
But only because I’m remodeling my wife’s Nuno’s home that he built over 100 years ago. Damn thing has rock walls almost 3’ thick !
My longbed does a good job of hauling everything...almost everything :).
But not the reason I bought it.
I just really like the long bed !D42BBECE-26A6-41DC-BE3A-59BEBB9871D0.jpgbesides as you can see by the heavenly light I think god likes it also!

    Really?

    Load em up Buttercup!

This camper weighs an actual 4500 lbs by itself, sitting in the 8 foot bed with the tailgate removed.
Can your LB Tacoma still play in this sand box? Nope! It's a mid sized truck with a 6 foot plastic bed with the carrying capacity of a Tonka truck.

I did not purchase either of my Tacomas for carrying "real" loads, long or heavy.
This is what my full sized truck is for.

Totally agree, really dumb that the off-road here is only available with 5 foot bed.

Don't you have the ACLB Off road up there, in manual none the less?

You win some, and lose some.

There is always the DCSB OR and an over the bed roof rack.

Nice, but that short cab looks funny, you should have bought a 6 door F350. More room for all those kids, too! :)
