Long bed all the way for your needs. Good luck in your search.

To be fair, longbed is a misnomer.

The Tacoma comes with a bed and a short bed ha. There is no “long bed” by anything other than name.

That said, for your gear hauling uses and not needed shorter wheelbase for crawling the long bed seems like a no brainer.

With the Tacoma vs your current truck you’ll be losing width, and probably depth, so gaining a little length would help make that up.

DCLB. I haul stuff all the time and fill the long bed on a regular basis. I also folded the back seats down the day that I got the truck and haven't put them up since. I keep tools and things that I want dry and secure on the back seat platform and lumber, etc. in the bed. Perfect combo for me.

DCLB here. I bought it because a dirtbike fits straight in and does not stick over the end of the tailgate. I use a bed extender and it gives me plenty of room for gear.

DCSB here...definitely agree it’s a SUV with a bed which is exactly what I needed. I considered a 4Runner but didn’t want to be limited by the capped rear end. Short bed vs long bed, we’re still winning over those SUV soccer moms

No worries. IMO the SB looks a little too short and the LB looks a little too long. I suppose a 5'5" compromise bed would be a total fail.

You can add a Leer 180 style shell which is over cab hi by 4" to compensate for the Limo look, even better is a sport hood and Leer 180 to offset the limo look

If I needed a short bed I would have just gone with a 4runner. I needed a truck, got a truck with a useful bed. Not an open cargo trunk.

Other vehicle is a Tahoe for people hauling. Needed a long bed for hauling stuff & had to be a manual. Only choice for me was the Sport.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but for me, the the access cab with long bed looks the best.

Went with the double cab because I need room for my wife and son. Went with the long bed because I just wanted more bed space and the short bed just looks weird to me. Should be called short bed and standard size bed because I think it looks better with the long bed. Just my opinion.

I have a short bed and it’s great. However, I am upgrading to a long bed because I want to sleep in the bed

Only downside with the short bed IMO is not being able to sleep comfortably in it but that is a rare need for me anyways... I can always cuss while setting up my tent.

I had to get the double cab short bed because it's the only configuration that a manual can be had with the Off Road v6. The double cab has proved to be extremely useful even though I initially didn't think I needed it. Short bed issues can be solved easy enough with accessories... I run a raised bed rack and also have a hitch bed extender handy if I need it - with these two things I have not found a single thing that is too long/big to be hauled.

I'm all about function but there is just something that doesn't look right about the double cab long bed configuration... At that point I think a full size rig looks better/more proportional. Just my .02 hard tops make them look better but I can't get over adding that weight and reducing payload.

I have a short bed crew cab. Would have preferred a long bed crew cab by a small margin, but manual transmission trumps everything else in my opinion.
