Been lurking for a while. I figured it’s about time I be more social over here and document the mods/adventures.

Long Boi is my 2020 Voodoo blue double cab long bed Tacoma with the TRD Off-road trim. I bought him new and with less than 500mi drove from houston to Colorado for some off-roading.

Ended up building a plywood divider. Works pretty good and you can pop it in and out.

Summer ski day and off-roading in Colorado again at St Mary’s glacier. Randomly saw the Rising Suns out there on a trail ride.

New boot goofin. Real ostrich. Only 3 payments.

Actually, these are Land Cruiser 70 Series steel rims with 255/85-16 km3’s, not ostrich. Just trying them out for a week before they went on my 1971 FJ40.

I was driving through downtown houston and stopped at a random red light, as you do. Some fine gentleman knocked on my window in the middle of the road, so I rolled it down. He gave me this and ran back to his car, also stopped at the light. Very weird brief interaction, but cool hot wheels (I am a large child). It’s still in my glove compartment in original packaging, 2 years later. ‍

Decided that the taco was too loud during long road trips (where I get most of my miles in). So I added dynamat and 1/4” closed cell foam.

Foam also helped with temperature insulation. There used to be heat from the transmission hump coming in and that is gone now. The doors stay cool too. The ac quickly cools the cave here in houston, even on the hottest texas days.

Baseline noise reading on I-10 east bound doing 80 just outside houston. Mostly low and mid noise. Dyna for low end, closed cell for the mids.

    Layer 1 - dynamat
    Layer 2 - closed cell

I tried to get as much coverage on both sides of the door as possible. Also covered the speaker box and plastic sheet covering the door opening in closed cell foam.

Once the 4 doors were done, everything went back together and you couldn’t tell I took them apart.

I forgot to take pictures, but ended up pulling all the seats, center concole, carpet, bench cubby inserts, rear speakers, and anything else i could find. Then in went the dynamat and closed cell foam on all floors, rear wall panel, and under the bench seat cubby inserts. Also put close cell foam on the backside most plastic parts, including puller covers and front door kick plates.

An example of the foam on the backside of a plastic component (center console) is below.
It mostly all went back in. The only issue was with the front seats, minor at that. The rear mount plastic covers won’t go on because the carpet is now 3/8” taller meh. Worth it.

Overall, so much better. The loudest thing now is the engine. Almost no noticeable road noise in town.

Noise comparison is below. I have never really looked at them side by side. Both doing 80mph on concrete highway.
