Someone saw my truck at my shop and came in to ask if I use my tent on sore thumb and says I’m screwed if I even try. Anyone have any experience?

i think the county beaches have a rule about no tents, the start of each season is usually when they bust the most chops

From what I read, tents aren't allowed at all, because camping isn't allowed. BUT trucks with a "camper" shell are allowed. And you are allowed to sleep on the beaches, just not in a pitched tent. I remember talking to acouple of people about it a while ago, one guy got reemed by park police for using a rtt, one guy didn't even get bothered.
I guess it's up to the officer you talk too? I wish there was more coherent rules, but I guess RTT's are big grey area.

well like most things right, it is defiantly up to the officer lol :spy:

it should be noted that The County Beaches and the State beaches have different rules, a lot of times it seems people groups all the beaches together and assume they all have the same rules

as far as I was aware, at the county beaches (like sore thumb) there are no tents allow
for the state beaches (like smith point) I believe hard shell slide in campers are allowed but ground tents are not

it seems like roof top tents are in a grey area, they are not campers as per the county and state because they are not considered fully contained sleepers like a slide in camper is...

I think you can sleep at the beach during regular beach hours, they just don't want people sleeping there over night illegally and like most posted signs with rules the idea is to deter the masses from doing it :lalala:

I've spent plenty of nights at both Sore Thumb and Democrat Point with this setup and I haven't been bothered once. I was told that the rule for both of those beaches is no ground tents / tents pitched in the sand.
