@uurx: That lawn mower must have some serious HP if you need the helmet for it.

What tire pressure do you air down to on LI Beaches? I'm new to beach driving, have seen enough people stuck already this year.

My only similar experience is bike racing, which when you ask what pressure to run your tubeless tires on you get 15 different answers out of 10 riders.

15lbs is my desired psi over at smiths point, and anything above 20psi is really terrible
the smiths point sand can be pretty soft in certain areas

lowering down to 25psi like so many will advise is simply not enough, 25 is better than 40 sure but still not enough in my opinion

I have driven up and down that beach hundreds of times from 13psi to 40 psi, first hand testing can really make a believer out of those too lazy or simply refuse to ever air down

I always get a good laugh out of seeing people air down after they get stuck...

this guy was a classic example, he refused help at first...
he thought letting air out was gonna help after being axle deep in the sand
finally on my way back he accepted the help, I should have taken a picture of the small cord he handed me to help him with...
poor guy was totally lost, the sad part was he is just another local who always drives out and never airs down...

just give 15 a try next time though, just as a comparison, like a little science experiment

its not just about getting stuck/traction, its huge for not cooking the suspension/ride quality, engine/trans temps etc
