there is no way you can calculate 30MPG on a 5 mile trip.....now, if you spend thousands on an EPA gas metering device, then you can make the claim...the only way for us common folk to be sure is to drive with a full tank, note the mileage at fill up, divide the gallons needed to fill into the miles driven since last fillup, MPG, it ain't rocket science....

I see what you're saying. But i look at my trip advisor when i shut off my truck. Its worked like a charm so far, 400 city miles on 18 gallons is about 23 mpg city. Not bad if you ask me. But then again, im a 1st time truck owner.

I wouldn't let the truck do calculations for you. They are notoriously inaccurate

I'veread about that on this forum. But to be honest I'm a bit skeptical of that. With all of our advancements in computing and technology, how inaccurate could it be? Like you got 22mpg as opposed to 21.5 mpg?

While it may be close for you, it's a mile away for me (no pun intended). I do agree with the advancements we have it should be dead on, but hey I would rather have manual locks and windows in my truck too.

Hahaha funny guy. I understand about wanting to be spot on. But the reason im ok with a margin of error is because its still fuel we're measuring. It evaporates, the tank tilts and so on, so to be .5 miles off, or something of the like overall, isnt that bad if you ask me. But then again i like all my electronics in my truck.

I was merely pointing out how it's inaccurate, I don't specifically know how inaccurate it is. It's no biggie for me to spend 20 seconds with my phone's calculator and figure out the MPG. I'm really not a funny guy.

I use a Ultra gauge on my older Tacoma, and had it calibrated to work at an average of 2500' elevation when living in Virginia, over time with adjustments, you can dial it in fairly accurately, usually it was within a .1 or .2 of being spot on at fill up, most of the time dead on....forward to California, now live at sea level, have not re-calibrated the gauge for the elevation change which I will do today (just lazy), the gauge is really wacko now because of the much improved MPG....I don't know if the gauge in your much newer truck allows for manual adjustments.

The only real way to check is as I previously stated.....it is nice to see the slightly improved MPG in the newer trucks....Just looked at a 2016, frankly, I don't like it, it looks like a puffed up behemoth with the front end styling compared to the 2nd gen...to each his own...

The metric system is all fine and dandy until you need to cut tenths of a pizza.

The metric system is digital. The English system is analog. People are naturally analog. Metric is great for science but but unnatural for humans. We like to say things like "quarter tank or half full".

everyone seems to be forgetting that our monetary system IS metric, you have been using all your life if in the states....the rest of the world is pretty much metric....we were supposed to be converted to all metric in this country by the year 2000....archaic...
