Here's my rifle, it's not much but it's a shooter. Remington 700 chambered in 7MM-08 with a Krieger Remington Varmint profile 24" barrel. I had it accurized by them when they installed the barrel. B&C M40 stock, skim bedded. A Vortex 6-24x50 Viper HST scope and a Kampfeld bolt handle. I'm just getting into reloading, but it shoots really well using Hornady Precision Hunters in 150ELDX's. The furthest I've shot it is 700 yards, hit a 12" steel plate every time. I'm thinking about going a chassis route but am still up in the air with that.

There's one or two lurking around if I remember. I'm sure they'll be here in time.

Hopefully they chime in. I need to pick their brains. I'm having issues with a MST-100

Idk know how much help I’ll be. I one of the m40 owners, mine is the A3 and looks identical to the lower photos. Same S&B pm2.

First and last time I messed with a Unertl scope was SS school mid 2000s. By then they were being phased out in favor for the Schmidt and Benders.

Yeah, they don't make the Unertl's anymore. Damn shame, I got mine from the CMP. I'm having an issue with my MST and I'm not sure how to go about it. The gap in between the Scope and barrel are not exactly parallel. As you can see in the picture, the scopes forward bell is slanting downward. Other forums suggested maybe a bent tube.

My base was made by Chris from TheHogsDen.com and its a true reproduction for the M40a1. It was milled and fitted for my receiver so I know its true.

    -Is it fixable?
-Will it effect my zero if it's not fixable?
-Have you seen anything like this before?

Um yeah, it looks normal. Looks like mine, the A3 base. Which is a 30 moa base. Might not be normal for a A1.

It’s to give the scope more up adjustment (extending the range of adjustments, by freeing up where the scope is zero’d in the erector. If it was for an A1, then I assume it’s the wrong one, if having a replica or whatever is the goal.

I could math it for you if you know how many mils of travel that scope has…30 moa gives a little over 8.5 mils. Usually subtracted from the middle of the total travel….ish.

edit: I forgot, those scopes had the retarded moa knobs with mil reticles. Same thing applies though with total travel.

Maybe these pictures will clear it up. If you compare the two pictures, and look at the front bell of the scope.
This lead me to believe that the scope is bent.

Rotated the scope on its side, the gap opens up.
    69179132768__9B0FA236-C3FA-4B62-9C82-E4F3BF7B1FEE.jpg

The scope is in the upright position, the gap tightens.

    Ah yes. It appears so.

That could be a problem. I would start by remounting it where the reticle is plumb with gravity and do a tall target test. Then box test it, to check return to zero for windage. That’s really the only way to be sure. Or you can do it in a vice.

With any luck, maybe you get a few extra moa up’s.

This ^ would be the upside Hahaha. I haven't even shot it yet. I'll have to take it out and get my zero, test and test and test. Thanks for the help.

I've been mulling a custom build as well, and I think the price tag is about the only thing stopping me, cuz its gonna be a gateway drug to reloading, etc.

Was a tough pill to swallow but I think It will be worth it in the end. I looked at a few factory offerings in 300 PRC and in pretty much all below 6k I'd have to put at least 1k into them (not including glass) so just decided on custom route and build it the way I want from the start

Yeah, I'm also not a PRS competitor or anything since I've gotten hooked on NRL22, so my current B14 HMR is more than capable of what I'd ask it to do. I just like neat toys.

I know this is long range rifles but reloading hacks go hand in hand ya?
Did a sub $4 mod today on a Redding powder trickler. 12" 5/16th" tube off Amazon.
With the fx120 scale- it's tough for standard tricklers to get to the center so this will help till my supertrickler comes in.
    Wanted to share.
    Happy holidays to y'all.

Not to say this out of place or disagree because I completely agree with you that hand loading is completely in concert with long range shooting but if you haven't seen this thread

I picked up a MDT Oryx Chassis over the holidays. It was an overstock item, I think their new offering has updated features. I knew it had an anodized finish and for the price I paid I knew I was going to cerakote it. I had it done by Easton Firearms Refinishing. He did a nice job. before and after.
