Yeah, just got more testing to do. Damn shame, just gonna have to shoot it more I guess.

Yeah, the savage falls at 1-9, so I'm at the edge on the 77-73gr rounds unfortunately. Thankfully I'm not keyholing yet I think but it's still probably still affecting my accuracy.

You shouldn’t be keyholin at the distances your shooting that only happens to some bullets when going transonic. What happens is some bullets become extremely unstable dropping out of super sonic flight, other bullets make the transition just fine. The 77gr SMK transitions well, I shot a 12” group at 1050yd with my 556 DMR, we happened to have a perfect day for shooting 70deg, low humidity and light 5-10 mph breeze from 6:00, the 77 goes subsonic around 900 - 950 yards.

What’s affecting your accuracy is wind.
Do you have a ballistic calculator?
Are you proving out the data from the calculator?
Are you making notes in your data book on the conditions?
    Do you reload?

Yes, no, no, no. Been pretty unscientific thus far as I've gotten into it. Today was unfortunately super windy, so that may be the truth. Got more work to do on a hopefully calm day. What should I be noting besides conditions? I am collecting brass to reload later, I know the only way I'm gonna be really on target is if I load them myself.

Which ballistic calculator do you have?
    Are shooting at multiple distances?
Record your elevation values and compare it to what the calculator is estimating also record your wind corrections.
Are you familiar with reading wind and estimating its value and direction?
Have you double checked the velocity at distance?
You don’t need a crono to do this.

Nothing wrong with factory loads if your gun likes em, I’ve shot BlackHills mk262 for years. I started loading 556 cause it’s a bit cheeper than buyin match ammo by the case. Once you start reloading you’ll be able to tune the load to your gun.

Be willing and ready to embrace the science of shooting.

Strelok pro, as recommended by a friend. I'm trying to shoot everywhere from 600 to 0.

I'll start a notebook on what the real vs calculated elevation is, a pen and paper isn't that hard to put in the bag.

I'm shit at reading wind, and I'm sure that's going to be my biggest hangup. I'm looking to improve that for sure.

Reloading will come with a bit more $. If there's tax refund left over after CCL a basic reloading setup is the plan.

Strelok is an excellent calculator, I have it on my iPhone & iPad.
Have you used the velocity truing function to check your velocity?
It works best at distance, setup a small target like a clay bird at 600yd or what ever the long berm at your range is. Adjust your dial up till you hit then you’ll set the actual value in the calculator and it will give you a corrected velocity to use.

You can use a scratch paper note book but I would suggest getting an actual data book to start. They will have target specific pages that allow you to record shots also there are pages with information on reading wnd as well. I’ve used the Impact data book for a number of years.

Long berm, lol I wish. I'm shooting on private land where the only berm is distance, flat as can be. I'll look into that function though, I've got a 4" gong that should do well for the 400 yards I can easily shoot out there. The 600 yard range isn't available yet, I'm hoping they open it up soon. I may pick up that target book soon, I'm hoping a little work will go a long way on getting me more accurate.

Damn, I have an extra lower sitting around I want to build a DMR gun out of but I have been back and forth between 5.56 and 6.5G. I have been leaning towards 5.56 just because of the cost of brass but the Grendel sounds like a fun round to play with.

Check your local shops for round availability, it's not too common in So Cal but YMMV. Can always order online but some states are cracking down on that  My point is: do it if you can get rounds for it!

Might want to flip your bipod around. If you load it at all, the legs are gonna collapse on you.

You can easily swap to a 6.5 barrel.

There's many barrel makers making similar set ups for the RPR.

I've gone back & forth on that. I havent put enough pressure on it to collapse the legs just yet...but definitely see it happening as I get more comfortable with that tactic. Good eye!

Yessir, out of an 80% lower.

The Proof carbon fiber wraped barrel is definitely my next big upgrade. So sexy. And great for competition with stages where a lighter weight is benificial. I will consider it more once I break 2000 rounds with the 308 barrel. Midway.com has them in stock for around $900

Yeah, that carbon fiber barrel is definitely proving itself. Wasn’t it like 800 and change from Proof themselves.

Nice! What is the barrel length on it? I'm in the middle of a build that is going to be a 6.5 grendel but can't decide on a length yet.

She's a 24" from Midway USA. I wanted a custom spiral fluted 22" but the company sat on my deposit for 3 months, then when I called told me they don't do that barrel anymore.
