Heck, I couldn’t reacquisition my target to see the verified impact without it.

That's what sucks about my gun. It's a tack driver out to about 1200, but if i shoot at anything less than about 600 i cant see the impact.

That’s why I kept the break on mine, so I could see those inside 600 yard shots

Well i scoured the internet for about 30 minutes now, i cant find one instance were a lantac is being used on a 300 win mag, or a bolt action rifle period.

Josh @ Patriot Valley makes them specifically for the 3Win

Don’t just go by the cost, his brakes do not use a crush washer or shims to index it. The brake uses a double nut configuration, thread the brake on to index then seat the nut against the barrel shoulder to lock it down.

I'm amazed with how much that brake reduced recoil. Making 300WM easy.

What do you guys think about using a 4-16 scope out to 1000 yards? I am gonna go to a range and qualify out to 1000 yards but want to be sure I wont have issues with the scope. I'm using a savage model 10 T-SR in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Vortex Viper HST

A few words from people more knowledgeable than I on the subject:
    http://8541tactical.com/magnification.php/

TL;DR: Yeah, I think a 4-16 will do fine. I've heard of guys using very low mag (3-4x) at long ranges to prove a point.

Have you looked though it @ 1000 yards? If you can see the target fine, than it works for you. Do remember, the higher the power, the less eye relief and vertical turret travel you'll have. (generally speaking) The turret travel wouldn't necessarily be an issue @ a 1000 yard, but if you wanted to go out farther, ( and the round is quite capable of it) It might become an issue if your scope is not canted when you get into higher powers.

I use a 5x25 Night Force at 1000, but I keep the magnification to around 12-14 power. This gives me a better field of view and less mirage. I only crank it up to max when I need to see where I am hitting the target without using a spotting scope.

I don't think you will have any problems doing that once you get it dialed in

Please explain how magnification effects the total amount of turret travel?

If I have 15 Mil elevation in my turret @ 6x I am still going to have 15 Mil of elevation in my turret @ 24x.

I ask because in the past 10+ years I have never heard anyone say you lose/gain turret travel based on your magnification setting.

As others have said you should be fine. Most PRS/NRL shooters tend to have their scopes set around 15-16x most of the time.

Something to note though. The Viper HST is second-focal-plane. Basically the reticle is only accurate at one magnification setting (usually max magnification).

If you are dialing your dope (elevation and wind) then there is no issue as you will always hold at the center of the cross hairs on any magnification.

However if your holding for elevation and/or wind then your reticle will not be accurate unless the scope is at max magnification.
