What load are you running that is safely sending a 175 SMK at 2750fps? That's REALLY hot. 44gr of RL-15 in my 175 TMK loads was around ~2600 muzzle velocity and I couldn't go much higher without seeing pressure signs

Either way, you're right- Match Kings are King. I just brewed up a huge batch of Hornady 168s cause I got the box of bullets for next to nothing. The red tips look cool, at least.

Sorry wrong dope chart that was my 708 162, my load for the 308 was 44gr of Varget running 2625 in Winchester brass touching em off with a CCI 250 still running 1150 @ 1100yd

I run the Hornys for my 556 and 708 loads and the 30cal 208 Hornady is the shizzle if you got enough powder behind it

They work quite well in a gas gun, AR-10s seem tailor made for them with some attention to the gas system tuning.

I want to try the 208gr for sure. Took a break from dumping money into long range plinking to build the truck. I'm rapidly approaching 'done' so I'll probably get back into guns soon. Honestly I like load development just as much as shooting

Little tree air fresheners. Clazzio black leather seat covers.
Everything I've researched points in the direction of them being a little on the finicky side when getting them tuned. Once you get them tuned they are supposed the be great! I can't wait to get her up and going and stretch her out.

Nice!.................... ok, so I finally got to read your info. I want to say, I myself was never questioning his statement. I only responded because that's not a normal round that you here being taken out to a mile. Fun I'm sure, just not normal! Kinda like 6.5 creedmoor. Its fun to take out that far, but not practical. (the math is what it is, long skinny bullets just don't like to go slow!)

I saw a Savage Axis action sell for $135 the other day and it got me thinking about trying something silly.

Knowing that a PTG short action, magnum face bolt head is 70ish, and Axis actions can be found cheap with some effort, I'm interested in piecing together a very budget magnum caliber military/police inspired rifle.

300 or less for a 24"-26" prefit/takeoff barrel in 300wm or 7rm, 250ish for a finished action, plus 250ish for a Boyd's Pro-varmint (before bedding) puts me at 800 or less for a fairly novel, completed rifle.

Given a 110 FCP HS MSRP is 1300 it doesn't seem too far fetched, but a Howa 1500 barreled action for the same purpose runs 450-650 so I'm kinda torn. I would love to get into the 1+ mile cartridge game (even if I don't have access to 1 mile ranges right now). Thoughts?

I should be going to shoot both of these today, from what I've been told we can shoot at targets out to 440 for sure, and possibly out to 1K if we're lucky.

Thank you, that was the sense I needed said to make sure I'm not doing too many dumb things. I do have a point to prove, but less so now.

As to glass, my M.O. is to spend as much on glass as I did on the rifle. In this case, find a used Leupold or a mid-tier Vortex or some such. As it is, sometimes I forget that sniper's hide exists. I should spend more time there.

May not be practical for anything but it sure is fun! I could never justify taking that kind of shot on anything other than a steel plate. Or 10lbs of tannerite... :D

I wonder if a 115 DTAC has enough energy to set off tannerite at that range.

Unfortunately we only got to shoot out to 100, by the time we got to the range light was fading and we had dinner plans with family (and I leave town tomorrow so today was the last possible day) but we accomplished the goals which were for me to put rounds through both the Ruger M77 and the Aero-AR10 that I built and then sold (unfired) to my cousin.
We had to put a JP high pressure bolt in the AR-10 to fix an issue of pierced primers, it shoots perfectly, the only issue with the setup is lack of bipod (not my problem) and a scope, my Vortex off of my Savage Model 10 is currently on the rifle and with non AR platform scope rings it’s very very low, however I believe a thermal scope will be going on it in the future and I’ll get my scope back.

I’m very pleased with how 6.5 CM shoots, I’d never shot it before today. In the Ruger recoil is fairly light, but the AR-10 is feather light recoiling because of being approximately 20 lbs, semi-Auto, and the Griffin Armament muzzle brake on it (which rung my ears as a spotter).
However I’m sold on scopes higher than 16 power now, my vortex is 4-16 and is the highest power scope my immediate family has, the nightforce on the Ruger is 5-25 and 25X magnification is absolutely astounding, as well as the reticle in a FFP scope.

It's tolerable, about the same as my broke rum was. Found out powder was the issue, got it into the .3s with 225 eldm.
