OK guys, I need some guidance on setting up my stuff. I'm closing in on a load that works, but my ergos are all over the place and I have no clue what a good baseline is for LOP, comb height, eye relief, scope height, ETC. Chassis is an XLR Element with their Tactical Light stock setup, so between that and my full length scope rail everything should be plenty adjustable. I've heard that elbow to thumb webbing is a good start for LOP but everything else may as well be Greek to me.

    Are you sure? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The problem is everything between 12 and 14.5 seems to work for LOP, and as I understand it that's the starting point for your other adjustments. I just want to make the thing passable enough for F-Class/PRS day 1 so I can dial it in with time.

My lop tends run about 13-13.5, I’m 6’2” as far ergonomics are concerned you shouldn’t feel like you’re forcing your body to conform to the rifle.

Is you’re neck cramping when shooting or being on the gun for an extended period of time? The bipod may be too low get taller bipod so you can relax your shoulders this will also help with breathing as well. One of our stages in precision rifle lasted +30min on a 90deg day. Everyone was prone 375yd out observing your threat/hostage target, on the whistle you were to send one round, it was a 10rnd stage. There were guys crampin up after 15min.

Are you creeping up the stock to maintain a sight picture. Your eye relief my need to be sorted out. You should be able to go prone behind the rifle and be straight out behind it. Unless you’re using an unconventional position like Hawkins prone it should be a fairly straight line from the muzzle to your hips your feet would be about shoulder width, mine are typically flat to the inside.

Are you experiencing the dreaded bipod jump, can’t control the recoil, maintain a sight picture? Are you square behind the rifle?

I really need to get somebody to look at me while I'm set up behind the rifle. As far as recoil/control/sight picture, I'm not having too much issue but it's a .223 so it really can't cause that many issues there unless my setup is hopeless. Nonetheless, I need more time behind the rifle doing a drill like that to look for issues.

I've shot in a few Vintage Sniper Matches with this one - one of 3 I currently have. This is a 1942 Izhevsk.

I think thats because this is a tacoma forum. Youd have to go to a jeep forum to find the guys that are afraid of a lil dirt and strap their rifles in sleds :stirthepot:

I remembered that I have this sled sitting in my basement - obviously collecting dust. I bought it when I was starting into shooting Vintage Sniper matches, used it a few times and then just switched to either a sand bag or my ruck sack.

It is made by Stoney Point - I think I bought it at Gander Mountain (now Gander Outdoors). Relatively inexpensive and actually seems to be of pretty good quality. It definitely locked the rifle in and was easy to adjust.

I keep looking at the 10/12 in HS stocks and drooling. Unfortunately they have no Axis options, so it's Boyd's, MDT, or XLR Element for me.

At least you have a top bolt release

I have to shave a little out to get the bolt release to fit.

Yeah, I'm glad my Element was a drop-in fit. If I buy another bolt gun under the custom level I'm not sure it would be a mainline Savage, the Axis is pretty nicely mutable depending on your goals , and is eminently modular. One action length, only two bolt types, savage barrels, etc. The biggest issue is the lack of aftermarket on stocks/chassis.
