    CZ has some pretty good looking rifles. Anybody have any experience with them? The 527 Varmint Heavy Barrel in 6.5 Grendel looks pretty good. So does the 557 Varmint in 308.

    CZ makes great rifles. My late wife had a 550 in 30-06 as a deer gun (it now belongs to my son). I was extremely impressed with the fit and finish - even the chamber reflected that same quality when looking with the borescope. The set trigger is a bit funky until you get used to it...I assume most people just treat it as a traditional single stage without a set feature. I'd certainly look towards CZ over something like Remington. The quality seemed on par with Sako, but with the CZ being a more traditional design.

    @VangaSTL
    Just so much AR. I’m getting bored with them. Just my thing.

    @Doughnut Spaghetti
    If you are going for a mini action in 6.5 Grendel, I read some issues with the push feed of the CZ Mauser type action. The rugers had issues with feeding as well. The Howa Mini was the best out of the box for that application. But that CZ quality and double set trigger is hard to argue against. I absolutely loved every CZ I’ve owned to date.

    @whitebread, et al
    Range day was nice. Buddy of mine brought an arsenal to get verified for deer season. And another friend brought his 2yo RPR that has never left the safe, lol. I brought the .260 to verify things for the PRS shoot next weekend, and my USMC 40x to knock the dust off.

    Temps were hovering at about 38F with full value left to right wind, 10mph with long solid gusts to 19.5mph. A bit of freezing drizzle earlier on, which broke later.

    Stuck up two targets on backers 15-20’ apart at 100yrds, and shot three well aimed markers with my 200yrd dope (3rds high and left) into target 1.

    Dropped to my 100yrd dope and did a timed 10rd set traversing between both targets, 54sec later we have 5rds each into targets 1 and 2.

    Target 1

    Target 2
    55FD5422-7FA3-4A45-896E-A647B5FDCEAC.jpg

    Walked to the 200yrd line to stretch out. The 200yrd at my range is funky. The topography and trees causes an eddy current to form between 75-150yrds. When the gusts hit, there’s a slight delay then strong swirl of variable winds pops up on your way to the 200yrd berm. It’s fun, and you get to practice timing your shots. You can watch your .22lr pill zigzag down to target, today we were seeing about 4’ of drift with subsonic Anguilla super match. Didn’t want to waste the Lapua midus+ today. Rolled out the .260 and fired three markers to see what the winds were doing. Then burned the last 17rds.
    image.jpg

    All in all. I’m happy with the factory rounds I bought on a whim.

    Thanks. I enjoy all of them, it's just a pain to reload for all of them.

    This is just one of the loads for the DTA when using the .300wm barrel.

    IMO (not that it matters!) Long range is relative, 200yards with a 22? Thats not out of this world but it is long range for that round. 800 with a 223? I would say thats long range. 200 yards with a 300WM or 308, not really long range.

    Fuck that. Minnesota at this time of year. I’d be buying some hand warmers and wool everything.
    Running a kestrel for dope and wind or you just going to do a print off day of?

    @corprin I missed the previous mentions of 260...I thought you were shooting 308. Excellent choice. :thumbsup: And every one mooches wind readings. Half way through the day you will find yourself putting your own corrections on every one else’s wind readings. :rofl:

    I do my best to spread the gospel of .264.

    Shot .308 for many years, and while it’s a fine caliber I have found myself appreciating the ballistics from the slightly smaller bullets. Also with two bad shoulders I like the lower recoil. Bought the 12lrp in 2012 to replace the 6.5x55 single shot build I had. Was torn between .260 and this new thing, 6.5CM. .260 won out because I liked the extra case capacity and the ability to load a bit further out with a max magazine COAL of 2.995” and I thought the CM was just another fad. I am glad I did, if I were set up for CM loading I’d have a ton of gas guns and other hip chassis guns in the caliber. .260 has been thankfully self limiting in that respect.

    Still have my small-shank 26” Shilen select match stainless in 6.5x55, that will get threaded for a brake, and a Bighorn TL3 spun onto it one of these days. If I catch the PRS bug, it might happen faster, but likely I’ll do it just on principal.

    My buddy that is pushing me into this PRS thing was irritated yesterday when my basically box stock Savage with mediocre glass was out shooting his semi-custom MPA built rifle with $2k in glass. I just internally laughed.

    As for wind. With the .260 pushing 136’s at 2875, I’m not worried all that much... and part of me has being thinking of having it set back and rechambered in .260AI. In the PRS game I’ve seen this far, I can deal with a max divination of 3” from wind with just a ever so slight hold to windward. I was holding wind yesterday, and grossly overdoing it with those three rounds walking to the bullseye pictured up there ^^^. The rest of that group was at no wind adjustment or hold from where I was hitting at 100.

    Well see how the 20th goes, I need to redeem myself after my borrowed equipment induced dead last finish.

    Most people under-hold wind. You have a unique problem. Lol.

    But being that most people hold too little, I’ve heard one theory that you hold the max wind hold you think it will be, then if you miss, you half the hold on the next shot.

    I wouldn’t intentionally try the above theory, but since you have the unique problem of holding too much, and given most plates are at least 0.3 to 0.5 mils wide, what’s the harm in cutting the bulk of the plate width off the hold on your second shot?

    What do you really need to get into PRS? I mean besides a rifles capable of making the shots.

    I am brand new, but from what I have seen.

    Rifle capable of making accurate-ish shots to 1k and a little beyond. These are not the norm, but not uncommon.

    Decent glass with some sort of graduated reticle, with easily adjustable turrets.

    10rd mag, and some stages may require a mag change.. so another 10rd mag

    Bipod

    Rear bag of some sort.

    100+ rounds per shoot. (Includes 100 for the comp, and what ever to practice and verify zero day of.)

    A good attitude and willingness to learn. (Not required, but you’ll catch a lot more bees with honey.)

    That said, I have about $1700, all in, for my rifle.
