We just did halved rope with square knot and over hand safeties for Aussy off the skids. Can’t imagine doing it in a seat.

Thinking of adding a brake to the 6.5, and curious to hear the opinions of others. Have a local store that carries a lot of 7.62 Surefire stuff for a decent price, and being common threaded with my 6.5CM barrel, it seems like a winner. Surefire does make a 6.5 brake but it's custom order basically.

Was forced into a seat with the double around the waist for “safety”.

Somehow a square with locks is unsafe?!

    I’m running a VG6 Precision on 6.5 and it’s cut for the 6.5mm bore

    You’ll never notice a difference running a .308 brake on a .264 rifle.

This is an old test, but it shows that the performance of muzzle brakes is all over the road.

    https://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/08/21/muzzle-brake-summary-of-field-test-results/

Personally, I have been running the APA Little Bastard or Fat Bastard and both work great. I used to run the Area 419 Sidewinder and it felt to be a little more stable than the APA under free recoil. I stopped using the Area 419 because it would slowly come out of time over about 400-ish rounds. It was generally a few degrees and always in the direction of the rifling. I've spoken to a handful of others who experienced this, and many more that haven't. YMMV.

    Hey, all.

My buddies gun shop has two 6.5 Creedmoor rifles in at a similar price point that I’m considering.
I like the trigger on one but have read a lot of reliability issues and some of the features of the other but not so much the trigger. Bolts are both acceptable. Both are heavy ha.

    Ruger Hawkeye LRT
    vs.
    Savage Model 12 LRP

Any input on pros and cons of each system that you would take into consideration?

I’ve had Remi 700s and a Tika T3x in the past but it’s been a few years. I’m a combat vet, decent shot (better than a newb, worse than some of you ha). Mostly want to get back into distance shooting as well as teach my wife to shoot at distance.

Purely a relaxing hobby. No hunting or “prepper/combat/derp” aspirations whatsoever.

I have land and want to relax and reach out.

Either rifle will be fine I’m sure, small price difference but not enough to care about.

Simply put, which rifle would you trust to give you the most pleasurable shooting experience, last the longest, and just get out of your way and let you shoot?

Thanks for any experience/input/pros and cons.

See my post #1083 on page 55 (I think) for results on Savage LRP. I don't have any experience with the Ruger.
A lot of the big swingin dicks like to make Savage jokes, but that's just silly; no $1k stock, off the shelf rifle is going to compare to a $3-5k custom comp gun. For what you want to do either would be good, and thanks so much for your service!
Let me know if you get one, I'll share load info, of course no guarantees, might shoot for shit in yours:rofl:

I’ll check it out, thank you. I do thorough research but it’s always good to get as many takes as experiences as possible. Appreciated.

I know it’s not on the list but for the price, Tikka’s are hard to beat. Especially if you don’t plan to do a lot of mods.

Plans to mod, I’d go 700 or a savage.

Tikka CTR was my first choice after researching, based off the mod plans I wanted to do.

It’s like cars though, everyone is going to say what they like or had good experiences with.

Personally I think the ruger is a better out of the box option. Sounds like you are looking for something like that.

Yup, just throw some glass on it and get as accurate as I can as a shooter.

I’ve done the excessive modification thing (with everything I own haha) and I’m kind of past those days. Sub-MOA is sufficient for me and my skill level has more room for improvement than anything else anyway.

What makes you favor the Ruger?
