My daughter used a borrowed 338 Lapua this week for a long range doe. She's already bugging me to get one. Might have to look for a used Sako.

Well I decided to go a different route. In the process of building an AR10. Please don't ban me from this thread lol.

Still in the process. I'm gonna make it as accurate as I can. I kinda thought this was a bolt only thread.

It's a long range thread, so just shoot it past 100 yards.

What are you thinking? Any fast twist chambering will work for long range. If I was building a long range AR10, I'd go with a fast twist 6mm creedmoor. Second choice would be 6.5 creedmoor.

Not to go against the big bore grain, does anyone shoot the .204ruger? Thoughts on the caliber? I was looking at possibly getting one for paper punching.

I have always wanted to try that round, I had done a lot of research and it's actually quite a stout round. Comparable to the 22–250, so I would actually still consider that kind of a long distance round depending on who you ask. Since I already owned a 22–250 in a Remington 788 , I just stuck with it until I went to 6.5 Creedmore. But yeah, I would definitely give that .204 a try.

FILaw has an R15 in .204. I found this bolt action Howa for a decent price online but I've got just today left to decide. It comes scoped already but I may just get a barreled action for a lot cheaper.

How much is the Howa, because they are a pretty good set up and they come out of Japan I believe

And what scope is on it, myself, I prefer to do my own scoping. But not everybody's that way

I haven't been coyote hunting for a few years. This weekend I pulled out my Remington VTR 22-250 with the weird triangle barrel. I have a Leopold scope with the varmint reticle. I forgot how flat that gun is with a round traveling over 4,000 fps. Being only 50gr. it slows down quickly though. A few years back I nailed a coyote on it's first hunt at 600 yards measured with a optical range finder. It was more luck than skill. My friends still tease me how lucky I was.

I wouldn't call it luck, we shoot out past 500 at groundhogs with ours, and the round can go out 800. I wouldn't trust it past that. but 600 on a coyote is totally doable.

I will say that a Kestral a the Strelok PRO app are a devastating combo in the art of long shooting.

It lists it as a Nikko Stirling Panamax 3-9x40. I'd prefer a more powerful glass to play with really.

I've got an m1500 bull barrel in .308w. Right out of the box the action was butter smooth like grandpa's 30 year old rifle. That's what made me consider the long distance plinker.

Yeah, I would probably look for one with out the glass then, but it is definitely a bitching round

I guess the one kind of negative thing that I will point out, Is just like the 6 mm, with the 204 being such a hot running round. If you do a lot of shooting, you will burn barrels out much faster, somewhere in the 1500 round a barrel area. With that said, my Remington 788 22–250 is from 1967 and still kicks the shit out of my father-in-law's Remington 700 in 22-250
