Be cautious, be safe. A few #itsascam folks at the match I attended last Saturday are now showing symptoms.

I never wish ill on anyone, but this reaping of Karma makes me feel a little warm inside right now.

Speaking of though, went to the store. All the 6.5cm is gone like the wind. As is the 8mm Mauser.

Yeah. They all mocked me for my mask and staying the eff away from them.

    I get 6.5 CM, but 8mm Mauser?!?

Then again I had a bunch of Nosler Custom ammo loaded for my K98k A few years back. Still have 110rds of that batch. Since I shoot it once a decade or so...

@corprin I know there were some unofficial/hush-hush matches around here. I didn’t participate.

The goal here is to try to take my first firearm and make it what I wanted from it when I bought it (before I knew anything), knowing that I'll likely never make up the difference in price, and incorporate what I've learned since then while trying out a variety of setups. The next rifle will be more economical/sensical.

Yea I figured as much. I ended up ordering a 20 Tacoma TRD Pro to drive around while I'm here (should be in later this month). Figured once it becomes a problem back in the states with range days, I'll trade it in for a LB OR or Tundra.

    Beautiful.
How do you like the DMR308 stock? I was thinking about grabbing the 556 version for my MRP.

Thank you. I really like this stock. Very well made, the controls that adjust the cheek riser and shoulder pad feel solid and have a nice locking stick in between the different settings. The other nice thing about this is that it allows you to use a standard buffer extension.

Nope. 6x47 Lapua - I need to use 6.5x47 brass and neck it down to 6mm.

Minimal, and configure it for Mammoth Sniper Challenge .308 B-shooter (plus look like the "Sniper Rifle" I wanted as a kid). I figure I want to throw another 300-400 at the gun (stock and .308 magazines) to finish it out after I've got the barrel mounted/threaded/brake attached. After that, shoot it til the barrel is shot out or I start making enough to pick up a BigHorn Arms action and build a homebuilt custom. Mammoth means lower weight is good and I only need to engage to 800 yards, which should be more than doable with good bullets.

I don’t want to sway your opinion or push you one way or another. It’s your rifle, and your money, so it’s your choice.

Out if the box Savages are good enough for most. I have confidence and repeated experience hitting IPSC silhouettes at 1170yrds with my 12lrp in .260.

If you are ping straight budget rifle with goals of Zermatt/Bighorn down the road. Get a used Remington 700 SPS Varmint .308 with a <1k round count. Then all your mods will work when it’s time for a new barrel in 4-5k rounds.

The initial specs I dug up on the 6mm ARC this afternoon look very promising. I can dig the 100+ grain projectile with ranges of 800-1K out of an AR-15 platform. I will wait until we get a few more companies making barrels before I build one.

Looks like Faxxon and Ballistic advantage are doing an exclusive deal with brownells.

I was looking into 6mm Grendel a couple months ago to extend the range/BC of the 6.5 Grendel with the light weight bullets, while not having to get new bolt/mags for the .224 Valkyrie... and I don’t like using a .22 for white-tail. From what I was reading it was a solid option for my next barrel, but rare wild cats are not my thing yet.

Now I can get the SAMMI registered round with the marketing machine of Hornady promising it takes off. I feel a 1k 6mm in an AR15 will be almost unfair in PRS.

I'm especially encouraged by the fact that Barrett is shipping REC7's in 6ARC to the DoD. New whiz-bang calibers are cool and Hornady has been on-point with bringing them to market, but .mil acceptance means it'll probably be here to stay.
