I sourced all my components through Aero Precision and used a Spike’s adjustable gas block, I built the 10 just to build one

I do appreciate the AR-15 however, I’ve built a few of them as well, yes the Mil specs for the AR-15 reduces the “hey we got a better idea, use our proprietary stuff” of the bigger platform

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. Your AR10 is going be DPMS pattern, armalite or proprietary. Buy a good barrel with the right gas port and gas block and you are gucci.

Besides having to actually read what youre buying or call and ask about specs, I don’t see what’s so hard about AR10s.

...but there heavy af. I have a 24 inch .936 barrel on mine for a 6.5 creed, it’s a fucking pig to hump around with.

Shall I introduce you to my 26”, 1” crown in a stupid chassis? Talk about a fucking nightmare to hump. And I have actually humped “the pig“ for reference. :)

Again, my impressions on the AR10 are very old, and limited to some factory rifles (Psa iirc)... and I mean no disrespect, mostly I am biased. I wouldn’t be shocked that the ones I’ve fired are just poorly cobbled together shot boxes that left a bad taste. I don’t see a reason for me to pay to play that game. I have my M14 that I got for a song, and I don’t shoot that but once a year. I had opportunity to fondle an XM110 in its early testing, but never fielded it. My last com there was a guy with one that was cleaning up some of the stages, so I see their worth.

Now Brownells is listing both the 20”. DMR and 22” heavy 6mm arc barrels for >$200. I am running out of excuses not to buy one.

I’ve humped the mk19, m2, the tripod the 240b&g the 60, the m40 and everything else. Didn’t mean it was fun at the time lol

Even made a sling for the 240 of 550 cord and use a com pouch for a nutsack after linking a 200 rd loadout lol

Still my personal guns have made made me comfortable, but this one is just a pound or two under the pig none the less. 20.8 lbs about scoped. But yeah my comp bolt guns are about the same weight. My western game rifle, a .300 prc is now about 17 lbs.

I saw you post about the 6mm arc on earlier on this thread. I didn’t comment because i don’t really have a dog in that fight. It’s cool for a standard AR, but I personally don’t get anything out of it. If it gets better that 2000 rds barrel life, then it might be worth adding to my collections one day, but really, my wife can take a .223 73 gr eld-m out of an SPR and pop a 18 inch ipsc at 1000y. We just need a minimum of a 65mm HD spotter to verify lol.

I have an M1A and would never compare that my my OBR. While the M14 platform is reliable, it offers nothing that a modern FACTORY 762 gasser doesn’t, except maybe a weight reduction lol. AR10 problems don’t stem from buying a complete system from a manufacturer, they stem from people who slap crap together and expect it to work 100% of the time.

Early on I had the pleasure of hauling a dragon around. That experience pushed me into a life away from any employment that included “light” in the name. Longest I ever humped a mk19 or M2 was from the arms room to the truck, and that was enough for my lazy ass.

I don’t really have a need for a .308 class gas gun, so by default I know little about them. Hell, my M14 is a Chinese knockoff. Again my experience with the AR10 is very limited and likely plagued by shitty cobbled together rifles. Don’t want to get that epic battle rolling. On a side note, buddy wants a .308 gas gun on a budget. I help him settle on a box stock AR10, he ends up winning a raffle for a SCAR-17 with a $250 investment. Some dudes have all the luck.

    Lucky dog, your friend.

Only positive experience I've had with an AR-10 style platform was a Knight's factory M110K1 in 6.5CM brought by one of their employees at a match. What a sweet piece that was.

    I had a spare AR10 receiver and a HP bolt, so I made a 6.5 creed.

I used the M110 on a few later deployments, so I can say that a .308 gas gun has its place in the world, both tactically and in competition/fun.

We’re all biased. My limited experience with the mk17 is that it looks cool but I could never get it to be reliable for me. Or anyone else. So I wouldn’t say the guy was lucky. However, if the guy wanted a cool looking gun, then sure...I guess imo.

Scar 17 is also known to be savage on lower priced optics. Beats em to death.

Issued a M110, shit I’m old. :) We deployed with M4s with ACOG for our DMs. 2/3 through my deployment is when they started pulling the M14s out of mothball. Maybe that’s my bias toward them?

If I won that raffle for a $250 SCAR 17, I’d flip it for $2500, and buy something more in tune with my likes.

I also heard it beats up optics. But to each his own.

That’s what I did when I won a SCAR 16 for $32 on an auction site years back lol. Traded that massive POS for an LMT MRP SLK8 w/ a 16” SS barrel and couldn’t be happier.

I’m sure. I wouldn’t know. I had an Elcan usually on it, which I have negative opinions on in itself. Edit: and eotech.

I went with LMT for my first large frame gasser. Pieced it together, but it's all LMT except the trigger, and flash hider.
No issues yet (only 400 rounds through it so far), even suppressed. Using a Surefire RC.

It ain’t much but I’ve practiced enough to consistently hit targets 600 yards out. You can do a lot with 3x:cool:

Got out this week a few times to test out some CDMs.

Turns out despite what AB says, it’s just another mess to figure I guess.
