For a general purpose DMR with very occasional match use, is there any reason not to do a 50/200 zero in favor of something else? I shy away from 25/300 because of the extra hold under at middleground ranges. Use will be primarily paper killing, but occasional yote, marmot, etc.

I'm a big fan of 50/200 as a walkabout setting. Especially on anything flat shooting, it works well on smaller targets.

    you should try the 36/300.

Second, just about every eotech, or aimpoint is zero’d somewhere around 25/200 to 50/200.

The point of a dm and thus the DMR is to reach out further then the typical capacity of the team and to that end they will be running a different optic. You asked about a DMR, so we should start there. If you’re running a LVPO, in mil or moa, or a bdc reticle you should be zero’d at a 100 so you can dope it at 4,5 and 600.

all my optics are zeroed at 200yd except my 22 trainer, that’s zeroed at 100, it’s just what works for me

unless your looking to setup a point blank zero

I settled on a 50/200 zero. My LW barrel is scary good with 77gr imi razors. 6.5 was zeroed at 100 for now until i can bear to be outside again in the Utah desert.

So you were more or less asking what the best PBR zero range was I’m assuming?

Which can. Area419 makes adapters for many of the popular cans so you can keep the wedge part on your barrel and swap out can for brake.

Didnt know they made conversion kits, but spending $140 to convert a can when it comes with its own muzzle brake QD mount for free doesn't make sense to me.

In other news, I think I lined up a buyer.

I'm not the shot I used to be, shitty sight now, don't bend like I used to. But, I still like to go shooting, mis being able to walk around with a gun just shooting at random stuff, practicing off hand shooting at every step. But going to the range shows you exactly what's up at certain distances, or in my case, how bad i'm doing. Like 4 inch groups at 200 yards, ouch, just chase it around the dot. I keep trying to tone down the gas with my adjustable gas block, but I'm jumping all over the place after each shot. 14 pound gun with a 24 inch barrel, I was expecting a softer hit. I built this one, .308, all aero upper and lower, CMC trigger, 45x Leopold comp scope that I get lost in, no hold over marks, still trying to learn going from one distance to another.IMG_0189.jpgIMG_0190.jpg

Upgrade the bipod to an Atlas and get a lower power scope. 45x is excessive for any practical shooting. 15x is plenty
If you’re sitting at a bench, try standing up behind the bench and bending at the waist to be semi-prone directly behind the rifle. Gas guns are a different animal when it comes to managing recoil compared to a bolt gun.

And a scope reticle with holdovers, be it mil dots, etc while you're at it.

Have a Burris 5x25 with hold over retical that I thought was hindering me out at 300yards, but no, it's me. I'll see if I can't the competition scope down, some of the guys at the range are real helpful, we'll see. Not going to the range much now, as it's expensive to replace stock.

You're right, I do need an Atlas Bipod, thanks for that, I don't like the MagPul, moves all over the place. The only reason this gun shoots, is at paper, I know, I know, I'm a gun enthusiast, I don't live or die by my guns, and I don't like killing things, just me. But I miss the days of being able to walk around and practice shooting offhand at every step, plinking for hours. Run out of ammo or tire of shooting, which ever came first. The range seems sterile to me, I need to get used to it.

I rather like my Magpul bipods after a little work. Running on my 338lm and my 308 ruger precision. I had to mess with the dial up front to stiffen it up but after that it's great. If your using a pure bench gun add a weight to the bipod mount or strap a sandbag right under it. If that helps you know the right direction. If not you can look further.

Also have someone watch you take a few shots, that can help a lot. I take a GoPro and video practice and matches for help with diagnosing problems.

Finally what ammo are you using? My rpr .308 and ar-10 in 308 like rather different rounds. Do you reload? If not try a few different weights and brands. My ar-10 when I got it was a 2-3 moa rifle with factory ammo, with some work to the rifle truing the barrel to the upper mostly 1.5-2 moa with factory ammo. .75-1 moa with reloads.

I took like 3 decades off from shooting, just wasn't in the cards working out of motels on the road doing heavy construction for a while. I just don't bend or see like I used to, just need more seat time at the bench. I've got a bunch of reloading stuff, but just get lost trying to start up. I've run all sort of store bought ammo, some real cheap, some real expensive, and I still just shoot in circles around the dots. I can shoot from corner to corner, then at the middle, at 200 yards, but i don't make real groups, just not settled enough. Old dog new guns with scopes it seems.

4" at 200yards is not bad out of a semi auto. 2 moa is not a bad thing. Groups will come with repeatability, ammo is top of that list in my book.

Most of all just get rounds down range, refine what you are doing and don't let someone tell you 2moa is bad. Battle rifles are 2-6 moa so your doing just fine especially after not shooting for so long.

If you have reloading questions feel free to message me.
