Long time Toyota owner losing faith...

    Since 1993 I have owned nothing but Toyota vehicles; 1993 Truck (pre-Tacoma), 2-Corollas (99&09), 2 Siennas (03&10), 2001 Sequoia, 2005 Matrix (sons 1st car), 2 Rav4s (00&12), 3 4 Runners (05, 08 & 15) and my 2013 Tacoma. Needless to say a VERY loyal owner.

In the earlier years the vehicles were very very reliable with no issues at all except for brakes and batteries, typical maintence stuff. The 93 truck went to almost 200K with only oil changes and tires, the 99 Corolla went 250K, again with only tires and batteries. Similiar results with all of the others.

Until 2009 when we bought the 09 Corolla. We had to replace the right front wheel bearing, an O2 sensor, much of the left rear suspension components (4 broken belts in 4 different tire brands from GY to BFG and Coopers). All within 60K. The 12 Rav4 had to have the catalytic converter and all 4 O2 sensors replaced twice and the ABS module replaced before we traded it with 45K. I have posted a very in depth thread about my 13 Tacoma front end suspension issue
https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-end-noise.367723/ and just yesterday picked the truck up from the shop having the Catalytic Converter replaced on it. Also all within 45K miles. The 15 4Runner has only 7,000 miles on it right now, so I am hopeful it turns out to be a good one, but there are little things that we have been noticing that have us concerned.

All of this said, it appears that the quality that Toyota was built on (at least in my opion) has gone away. All the while the prices have been going up. I personally don't see where the price is justified any longer and seriously considering other brands for the next vehicle. I was hoping that I could keep the Tacoma for a while as both of our kids are about to go off to college but based on the experience so far it will probably be short lived...

Sorry to go on a rant without a real point but I am increasingly frustrated with Toyota any more. Thanks for listening.

So no problems with 10 out of the 13 cars huh? I think you are a head of the game .

And of the repairs you mentioned it looks like a great deal of it was covered under warranty.

Stupid comment. OP was saying that he's noticed that newer toyotas seem to be of lesser quality than the older ones and has shown that his 10 older ones held up far better than his last 3 new ones and you're saying that that's ok because his older ones had no problems?

Gotcha. So continue to buy junk because older ones were good. Awesome logic. You should apply that to the stock market too.

    Reserected from the dead.
Newer vehicles are much more complex. This is required to meet emissions. With complexity you lose reliability.

I agree that newer vehicles don't seem so reliable. After I got my second gen Tundra, I picked up a first gen Tacoma.

The Toyotas of today definitely aren't quite the bulletproof quality of yesteryear. Having said that, they're still ahead of the game with overall quality. Just look at any long term realiability report. Lexus is #1, and Toyota is #2. Both of which are Toyotas.

My tacoma isn't quite as solid as my 93 toyota pickup, but I certainly wouldn't give it up for a more problematic domestic truck.

Short yellow bus boy... I have better things to do than to post on this site all day. I come here to get information and to read things Tacoma specific, not to be a super poster like you'd want me to be. If you want to be some dope staring at this site all day and posting useless drivel, you go right ahead. I'll spend my time actually doing important things like spending time with my family.

Yea, I think most vehicles today, even Toyota, just aren't built as tough as they used to seeing as how often people trade in their cars. I would rather keep my truck forever, but my former boss would trade in a new car every 2 years.

Since this thread is slowly going off topic. Can you guys help me answer this question:

OP I often feel the same
Than again at this point its hard for me to compare with other makes simply because all I have is Toyotas at this point. My concern is that if I were to switch things wouldn't be any better or maybe even worse.
