I do have an 18" right now and the guy at king said to go to a 16". He said it would fix the coil bind and i wouldn't need as much preload to keep the same height. :notsure:

If i understand correctly an 18" spring at 500# will require more preload than a 16" spring at 600# since that spring is rated for more weight per inch. A 16" spring will be 2" shorter so the preload collar may end up in the same spot. however since the spring starts less compressed there you will end up with less coil binding.

    i think...

If the nub was actually on the airbox and not the intake tube, it goes to EVAP.

yes if there too much preload you can get coilbind.

one way to check is look at the area on the coil where each coil would contact eachother . if the power coating is worn ,wearing , or flaking off you could be going into coilbind. and if thats the case all the force is going to go through the coiltowers instead of the bumpstop.

the best way is to pull the spring off (leaving the adjustment collar where it is) and cycle the suspension. measure the coilsprings total collapsed length and compare that to the spring specs from king. i would take the spring off anyway and see if it has an arc in it just standing up on its own on the floor. if it has a noticeable arc send to king for warranty, but be prepared to prove they dont go into coilbind if need be...

I also I have 18" coilovers 600lbs spring rate. I don't have any preload on mine. Sounds Like you just need a stiffer 18" spring.

sounds like i know why my ride is so rough... 2wd, 2.4, regular cab with, you guessed it. 18'' 600lb coils... i found some 550's 16'' and ordered some 6'' 500lb (i need them to lower the truck about 3-5 inches) for my "tender" coil. fingers crossed its a winning combination.

That will lower the ride height of the front. Preload is mainly used to control ride height. More compression valving will make it feel stiffer on bumps. Think of it as springs support the weight, valving controls the speed of movement
