did you just carpet it or did you put any sound deadener in before hand? how much do you think it helped with the interior noise?

An 07 4runner, but I should have looked around the rear more, pretty tight for up travel back there. 35's didn't help. Gas tank hangs low... still flip flopping on leafs versus some kinda link set up, blah

I'm in the same boat. Not enough room to do much. I thought about leafs but the way the frame is, the shackle end would hang way too low. I'm going to fabricate real shock mounts and with some custom shocks and longer spring it looks like the most ill get is about 14" of wheel travel and it will probably have to be 3-linked to get the most out of that. Other than that you would have to go through the floor with your shocks.

I had been toying with the idea of a cantilever rear but I'm not sure I want to get that much into it

Sounds like a fun project. I recently saw an FJ done really well but they used links and of course had to put the coil overs thru the storage area. It looked good after they sealed everything up and carpeted everything again. They also did a fuel cell that was at the rear most portion of the cab. I know the 4-Runners and FJs arent identical rear suspension wise but they both seem to bring a lot of the same headaches.
