If those are 35's you now have to run 37's so it doesn't look like you have baby tires

How does a kit with that kind of UCA joint (not sure what it is called) instead of a ball joint turn? I don't understand how the knuckles can pivot...

Same with this one, looks like a similar design at the UCA and still looks like the knuckle has to pivot to turn, but I don't see how it can with the way it is attached to the UCA...

see how the inner part pivots inside the outer sleeve? Thats how you get your spindle to turn. However you loose a bit of steering over a more traditional setup.

what bugs me a little about vertical uniball set ups is, you throw a vertical uniball up at the upper pivot to prevent the uniball from binding and limiting travel, but you still leave a horizontal heim at the steering knuckle on the spindle, which effectively still limits vertical travel. Doesnt quite make sense to me. If you want vertical uniballs, why not make everything vertical uniball instead of making one pivot vertical but leave all the rest horizontal.

That was my thought too. haha. Only think I can think of it the upper must have been limiting the travel to begin with, although if you were building a kit I would think you could find a UBJ to match the LBJ.

I have factory LCA's and Light Racing UCA's and I pulled my coilover out and cycled my suspension and my UBJ is the limiting factor on my down travel still.

Upper uniballs seem to run out of vertical misalignment before lowers and I can get 19"+ with a horizontal lower so I figured why not. When be build our kit for the 88-98 2wd chevys we might do vertical upper and lower.

i think that's because most trucks that run bolt on kits dont have equal length arms, so upper is shorter and pivots more than the lower given the same travel. Tie rods are most likely longer than the upper arms if they are connected close to the lower arms to maintain the correct ratio for bumpsteer, so maybe more pivot out of them too.

Its because the upper arm is shorter. It swings more so it needs more articulation

which brings me back to the point of the steering heim. In the above pic, it's the only part that is maxed out. Why not run steering vertically also? Steering is already limited by the vertical uniball, so i doesnt really matter anymore.

If the tie-rod/heimed connection is vertical at the spindle it'll actually allow the upright to have a free range with no control of the motion over in the range that mis-alignment spacers will allow. Then you'll see some bump steer:cool:

Idk but I can say wow you were not kidding when you said a cage changes the handling of the truck. Even just driving on the street there is major difference

Because of all the extra weight or what?
