Bed cage is ready for paint. The vertical open top tubes are for a roof top tent rack. I have plastic caps for them. The removable crossbar holds 4 VP fuel cans or 2 VP fuel cans and two five gallon water jugs snugly. I found water jugs that are nearly the same exact footprint as the VP fuel jugs. Bed cage is a bolt in.

Between the spring perches, shock mounts (axle), and bed cage I went through almost 6 pounds of flux core wire.

    ...too much shit to list.
Awesome Chase. Looks like you definitely put thought into the design.
    Two small suggestions.
    1) Ditch the flux core if you can. You'll be far happier with gas unless you're welding in a wind storm
    2) I would definitly try to integrate another tube on the outside of the upper shock mounts. There's a lot of leverage there and frankly I don't think the gusset is enough. Punch out the side of the bed and run a tube down to the side of the frame. Still doable as bolt in too if you use interlocking tube clamps or flanges.

I've thought about both Jason, gas would be nice. I would buy the tank rather than rent so it could move with me. How much do the tanks go for?

As for the tube a few guys here have them this way and I haven't seen them complain so I'm hoping it works out. It is gussetted in three directions and it's .120 wall DOM 1 5/8" tube.

I plan to put a go pro back there and see how it behaves; if it moves I will either punch throw the bed side and sleeve it or will drop a tube and bolt plates through the wheel well to another tube/frame.

I agree with jason about ditching the flux...gas makes it so much nicer.

yeah check around craigslist you should be able to find a decent tank for cheap, just make sure its hydro certified/tested or whatever, so that it can be refilled/exchanged

Just wondering if a driver saw said "kicker" a little ahead of time if laying on the skinny pedal just before the launch would aid the transfer of weight to the rear via acceleration ?? (it'd have to be good acceleration i'd think) any thoughts ? I don't mob so i dont know...:notsure:

It works for a dirt bike, obviously, but with the power to weight of a truck it doesn't work near as well. You have to be careful too because loading weight to the rear at the wrong time will make it rebound harder and actually make the rear end kick higher

ehh idk, loading the suspension could cause a lawn dart effect to... it really just depends on the truck, its geometry, its spring rates and a ton of other factors.
