TTB is nice and all, but my next rig is going to be center mount A arm 4x4:

hopefully after I get my MBA, CPA, CFE, and house, i'll build one of these, along with a 4x4 Ambulance converted to expedition tow rig.

At least you're grounded with your ideas!!! LOL I was at the ultra 4 race this weekend. Every time I go I'm always surprised how many more/new IFS rigs there are running. Saw one break the pass side UCA clean off. The arm itself broke just past the threaded bung for the front heim pivot point. Whoopsy!

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I have a 3.4 sitting in my yard now and it sounds like it was the way to go over the 4.0 so I feel good about the decision.

just got off the phone with them again. the spline count on the tundy cv axle is 26, the spline count on the tacoma cv axle is 34. so they cant put the tacoma outer CV on the tundy axle.
    i have manual locking hubs.

    assistance please..

ahhh thats the kicker. You have manual hubs.

You have to swap the Tacoma Manual Cv out knuckle onto the Tundra CV shaft and inner knuckle.

least thats what i have read is possible. Someone on TTORA did this and is running his truck with LT and manual hubs.

    About all i got though..

Shouldn't be that different..if at all really..i think even 2nd gens tacomas are like 29 spline.

    34 might be 2nd gen inner spline..i can't remember..

first gen tacomas though a 26 i thought..

but yea, should just have to swap the outer Manual hub to the tundra shaft.

are you talking about the splines that the outer cv joint goes on (so the splines on the shaft its self, not the joint)?

those are the spline counts on the actual cv joint its self, not the splines that the cv joint needs to slide on to (the actual shaft)
    does that make sense?

no not on the HUB or the CV joint. on the axle shaft that the cv joint slides onto.

so i just got off the phone with total chaos and they said that it cannot be done with manual locking hubs? they said they used to have to have the shafts custom made because of the spline count?
my only option is to go to auto locking hubs or get a custom shaft made?
wtf? everywhere else i read just says to swap them...

the inside of the CV joint has splines that slides onto splines onto the axle shaft so it doesnt spin on the axle shaft.. then the cv joint has its own splines that go into the hub

well..here is the guy to talk to. good info here too Seems ORS used to make custom shafts for manual hubs. might be out of business now. Have to get a custom shaft cut for manual hubs now.
