Use a spring compressor to take load off the collars. I've personally used ratchet straps but I dont recommend it.

use a combo of a pin and spanner, perhaps someone close to you has either or so you can get into the hard reach hole.

jesus christ, get longer coils, and get a spanner wrench ! make sure you measure collapsed coil height vs. compressed shock. dont want to bind your coils and break them. you might have to pop the upper ball joint off the spindle to get that uca to swing up and out of the way when you crank on it with a spanner wrench.

He's saying he's trying to get MORE preload(already 2 inches down) and can't get the collar to turn anymore because of all the preload.

Honestly, what might help just a hair more would be to lift the front of your truck with a jack and get some of the weight off those coils. Fully droop out the front suspension and you can probably compress those coils a bit more...not that I advocate that much preload...but hey, to each their own.

Yeah I just edited my post because I realized what he meant. When he has it at full droop to take as much tension off the springs the UCA is in the way of him turning the collar.

I'm going to go with Blackhawk and say he needs to throw some spring compressors on there to get the tension completely off the coil and try to move the collar. Might even have to pull the shock out to do it since the UCA is in the way.

It's not that the collar won't spin anymore there's just no room to get tools to line up with the holes on the collar because the uca is in the way (not that it's hitting it just at the same level) 600# coils should be enough for a first gen 4x4 with no extra skids and stuff right?

OHHHHH. Ok then just pop your UCA off the spindle and get it out of the way. bammo.

Also, do yourself a favor and don't take any tools other than a spanner wrench to that collar, all you're doing is F***ing yourself down the line...or the next person that gets those shocks...sigh.

They are, use an allen wrench that fits snug. I have used an allen wrench from day one and its much easier than a spanner wrench because you can use both ends of the allen wrench to get different angles

Yeah 600lbs should be enough. If you go higher it may get a bit stiff. Although a stiffer coil will require less preload so it may balance out. How much lift are you trying to achieve?

I don't want to use a spring compressor to get my coils in, I'm not LT running a 14inch coil would require a spring compressor I might get 650# coils but it seems overkill on a first gen

Just 2.5 I really only need to go another half inch or so it's close just need a couple more turns I'll just pop off the upper ball joint and well be good to go, thanks for all the help guys

Ok so u 4wd guys.....I didn't install or cycle my kit so not sure exactly what my numbers are, but when revavling the coilovers it seems I had a good amount of travel left in my coilover. It extend another 2-1.5" at the coilover shaft. what's the best way to find when ur cv binds? Is it as simple as droop it out, spin tire and go lower and lower till it binds up, then just strap it a lil up from there? Any tips, links or previous write ups would be great.

Although many do it.. It is not recommended that you adjust the pre load collar, while the shocks are on the vehicle.
As some stated above, take the shocks off the truck, use a compressor and adjust by hand.

I am pretty sure your down travel is still limited by the UCA uniball. My shocks still have an inch or two left when the UCA bolt starts hitting the uniball cup and it is strapped up a bit from there

Ok makes sense. Ya now that u mention I remember that being the limiting point. When I do bumps up front I'll give her a good cycle with no coil.

I know for 930 CVs you dont want your axles to go past 24 degrees at full droop or bump. compensate for your limit straps stretching too.

What blackhawke88 said, I strapped it where it no longer binded and with limit strap stretch it binds.
