Technically yes, but i doubt you will notice it on a play truck, nobody here is boiling their shocks running barstow for 4 hours straight

Not sure how you mean that but there may be a Customer Support Program ELT on the ECU to 15 years / 150k. I would call Toyota CEC and play dumb, 800-331-4331.

Agreed. All it takes is one little caved in motor mount for the oil pan to start knocking a hole in itself.

I agree that not many are running Barstow main for hours, and that in some cases it may not matter, but an hour down a graded road will kill a shock, especially if it can not breath.
a piston living in a 1-2" area of a shock body creates a ton of friction and heat, bowling and breaking down the oil causing the shock to fade..
If you are going to paint/powder or dip a shock, I would recommend that you put the best fluid possible in it, something that will keep the heat down.

Just out of curiosity, I imagine that King and Sway-A-Way are running premium fluids on their black bodied shocks?

those shocks are anodized not powder/ paint coated. all shocks are anodized, they just change the color from clear to black or what ever color you choose.
Like what was stated above.. It may not matter in most applications, but if you are going to do it, you should run the best oil to try and combat the heat trap that you will see. whether it be a little or big gain in temps.

if we were to chop the old perches off and buy the dmz ones, bolt them to the engine side w/ solid mounts, snug down solid trans mount and position engine (or should we position the engine first and base the trans mount off of that location?), possibly tack the mounts to keep them from shifting, then bolt up the diff and check for clearance, we should be able to get everything set up right?
we think the frame is bowed a little bit because the engine wont seat on the driver side perch correctly, and when he got the truck a broken stock mount was kind of haphazardly welded straight to the perch.
i don't think that it will be too hard to do as long as we get the positioning right, but the gap between the pan and diff scares me a bit
