    Lets say hypothetically I was interested in buying coilovers from someone who has no idea what they have but looks like an 8 inch coilover, and the only info I have is that the overall length is 17" (which seems right size for a fox shock), and the coil is 11.5". How would I tell if its an 8 inch coilover or not??

    It's not. 8" coil over have 16" coils. Unless the preload is insane on them

    A "standard" 8 inch coilover should be around 24" extended, 16" collapsed. Fox are tad longer

    i have coilovers that are valved pretty well i believe, ive heard adding front bypasses is almost a night and day change

    They are nice but not 100% needed, all depends on what you're doing with your truck. I ran with a c/o only up front for years and it was fine, hit plenty of big jumps and whoops. Do you know what's in your c/o valving right now? The only real need to have bypasses is if you can't get the coil over stiff enough or you are overheating the shock. If you say you think they are valved pretty good right then you might not need to upgrade

    thanks tyler, i believe its at 15/12 now if im not mistaken rides pretty well i think ( im no expert shock tuner) just like doing trial and error. plus it makes me faster at rebuilds and revalves

    That should be close, might have to step up to a 20 on comp if it's not stiff enough. I would cage it first then get a bypass if you feel you need it later

    I need to step my coilover comp to 20 sometime before this season. I'm at a 12 flutter 12 standard stack and its pretty damn soft with my bypass tubes all the way in. Going to do a 12 flutter 20 standard stack, open the tubes up and tune from there. Adding all the 4x4 stuff added quite a bit more weight to the front end.

    I wouldn't imagine you would need 20's in a prerunner.

    My front comp on coilovers is a straight 20stack....no flutter no bypasses....way better than it was but might need a tad bit stiffer. We shall see how it is once these bumps get put up front.

    4x adds some weight for sure!
