We built that truck a few years back for a customer who sold it not too long ago.

who in here has a 8" rear end thats regeard with a decent amount of miles on it? mine made it 1300 after the regear and my buddy has gone thru 2 in the last 3 months, both times getting regard back to stock because his stock gears blew. and i know SB jordan just had to send his back to ECGS after just a couple months. and i know that mark guy who had SMP build his truck broke his after just a few hundred miles. are the 8" rears just not strong enough or is it probably an install issue?

my last e-lock diff from ECGS lasted 40K hard miles before grenading. 4.88's. Think about how many years that tiny ring gear has been used in Toyota's...it's just not strong enough no matter how you build them (for desert use). Mine ate $2500 in parts over the last 85K miles.

You guys have to stop landing with the throttle on!! haha J/K
That must be a pain going thru that many gears. You guys need to run a 9 inch. But I know that costs $$

East coast just sent me a new diff after mine broke. I fractured the ring gear and spun out the pinion bearing. They said it might be from shavings left behind when my old diff blew... Only problem there is the old one never failed. Jus regeared for bigger tires. So my issue just sounds like they installed a bad bearing or something. Either way there customer service was spectacular and tey fully replaced the diff no charge at all.

    THIS^^^^^^
My 9 inch has 7 years off hard off road use and 1,000's of Racing miles. I have not blown a single set of gears or axles. Yes I spent extra money, but it is so not worth the head ache to keep dealing with it

Nearly the same for me. I had a guy that 4WP recommended. I broke it in the first 150 miles on the way to a Mojave trip. Haven't had any issues.

    :edit: Nitro brand gears.

I've got about 15K on my 4.88's without issue. They were setup by ECGS. I'm only running 33's but I weigh over 6K lbs and am locked front and rear. They haven't seen a whole lot of high speed abuse but they have seen a ton of rock crawling miles.

general rule of thumb.. three threads per inch. not knowing how much actual preload is in them, you are just going to have to adjust, check, adjust, check.

No wont change the strap mounts/length.

    I know...trust me I know.
Luckily all mine have failed on the street. One was literally backing up in the drive way to line up with my trailer. But to be fair. Two of those diffs I've had fail were definitely bad installs from Marlin Crawler.
