Pinion gear is a bit messed up but gonna regear anyways. I hope it fits my tundy axle. And anybody find me some 4.30 8" gear set used?

If its a 8.4'' diff..it'll fit the tundra axle. Same diff for 1st/2nd gen tacomas and 1st gen tundras.

4.30s are hard to find man. Id just go with 4.56s

Its a 8" diff. Outta a 97 4 Runner I asked Jberry he said as long as if it was not an E Locker it should fit. Seeing from Ericks differentials page, it looks to be the same, and nothing says otherwise. Both 30 spline.
And yes I know they are out there on diffs, but I will find a set.

My Detroit is a tight fit. I have some rubbing on the pinion face and true trac housing and put a solid 30K on it since I last looked at it. My gears teeth are in great condition. She still doing good. If it is the type of rubbing my pinion is getting it will come back with new gears.

    What differential and what axle?
And what gear ratio was the axle you got off me last time?

okay..so they are both 8" diffs.

but the non elocker housing is called the 8.4''..has a slightly bigger ring and the pinion bearings are bigger..about the only difference.

For the sake of it they call it the 8.4'' just to make it easier to distinguish them.

So as long as its not from an e locker housing. It'll fit just fine

Good to know. Yeah I read on another forum that technically an 8.4" is just called that it actually is an 8".

    I'm a 7.5" 5 lug still at the moment.

I resold that 8" and picked up a tundra axle to be swapped instead. That axle was open diff 4.10

Still haven't mounted the tundra yet. My 7.5 just has some marks from the pinion face thrusting into the true trac housing from driveline plunging. I even have a slip joint. Just want to give you a heads up if it looks like you have that same wear as me on your 8.4. Mine just happens to be shimmed extremely close to the true trac. Still extremely quiet.

    Read in the link more,

"v6/turbo" 8" diffs and "8.4" diffs are not interchangeable due to a slightly different bolt spread pattern.

The biggest difference with the "8.4" is the bearing back brace.

Diff bolts are also different size, you may be able to mod an "8.4" housing to accept an older 8" diff but you definitely can't put an "8.4" diff in an 8" housing.

Yea it's the 4runner diff and early truck diffs.

    Or the elocker from tacomas

But it's not the open tacoma diff or the tundra diff

Probably missed it since i've been working too much as of late. What are you going to be focusing on, kits or general fab?

Anybody running a 10inch light bar? I bought 42 inch and a 10inch as a package deal off of a member but I have no idea what I would do with the 10inch bar. Currently trying to decide if im running the 42 on my dtf bumper or on the roof (might not look as good as a 50inch radius)

If the diff you have has the bridged bearing caps then it will fit in a 8.4 housing. Bridged bearing caps means you have an 8.4 third.

    If it's a 4runner. I don't think so. But let's see it first

Okay here.. Probably not bridged caps.
Another question if it does not fit. Can I use this detroit locker in my tundra diff?
