Yeah lower speed = shocks compressing slower right?

On the road you really won't be able tell the difference, you won't use enough travel to leave the bypass tube.

    Repost for the new guy.
It behooves you to start researching now before you pull the trigger on anything to avoid regrets and redoing. Understanding the mechanics of how a shock works and tuning characteristics is far more important than travel numbers.

I was planning on building the trans mounts with a bushing just like I use on the motor mounts, you need some give

Actually the opposite. As you hit harder and the fluid tries to move faster through the piston more shims come into play and the fluid slows down

:goingcrazy: thanks for your help guys. I realize I'm asking some stupid stuff. It's late but I'm gonna do some more research. Thanks for the all the links!
I'm just worried about spending all this money and then ending up with something that's so stiff that I can't stuff my tires or have down travel. I really want to get away from this current suspension. It does nothing haha :/

if you wanna get really ghetto you can do what i did on my first pickup...
i ran a polyurethane gm trans mount for a motor mount (only works on 22re's)
but on the trans mount, theres a bolt that runs all the way through it... unscrew it, stack washers between the lower part and the upper part, and screw the bolt back through the pile. now you have a ghetto solid trans mount

this of course is a short term fix, landons trans mount is the right answer. shouldn't really be shaking though, especially just at idle, unless its really fucked up

Nice work Jeff. I don't think that rear frame section is going to bend.

I meant the current STX struts like I have. Haha I hear they are making some larger models but who knows when that will be.

Plus I don't have a front LT kit yet so I already knew I would be buying twice and thought I'd give them a try.
They are certainly a bit limited on the compression side. I guess you could get creative though in valving them. Rather than shims there are holes in a "plate". You plug them or drill more to adjust the compression valving. Rebound is adjusted with a sparkplug gapper.

I've plugged all of the holes in mine to get it stiff enough to not bottom out on hucks, but my rig weighs 6K with most of the weight on the front, I'm MT and running 1 shock up front.

If I was LT and had a bypass up front or a 2nd ORI it would perform a lot better.

The rock crawler world has fallen in love with them because they flex great. They don't stiffen up like a spring does when compresed so it's a lot easier to get them to move at low speed.

you can kind of see it at the top. I believe they cut the ends off the OEM tank mount, plated the frame then just welded the OEM mount back on.

I'll see if I have any better pictures.

That sounds like a good way to tighten it for a little while... I'm just trying to ignore it till I can do it right. Since stock the thing pops into neutral on washboard type roads and big hits.

Question for you guys. Just got the truck running again and it's been running fine on jack stands breaking in the gears. Today I let it warm up and turned it around with no issues. Turned it off and then back on again and it shuts off within a few seconds. If I let it cool off it starts no problem again until I turn it off and back on when up to temp. Any ideas? 2nd gen with a 4.0

Check the battery connections, especially where the ground bolts to the frame.

Does anyone know who sells (or who can spin on a lathe) delrin bushings that fit TC +3.5" lowers?

    Yes
    Two quick questions :

    1. Anyone know where I can find a 5" 1/2" grade 8 bolt for my UCA / misalignment spacer on Sunday ?

    2. Would it be safe to use just a regular galvanized bolt from Lowes or Home Depot for a couple days just to get me driving until I can find the correct bolt ? I know I can get one easily on Monday but my truck is my DD so I'm a bit F'd at the moment.

I wouldn't hesitate to drop a grade 5 from Lowes in there to get you through the week. Just don't romp on it. Lowes has a decent selection of grade 5 and grade 8.

The galvanized stuff... I'd do it if I had to but I wouldn't be happy about it. Probably not all that safe.
