Ive used a dowel/metal ruler, not sure on instructions, king and fox never sent me anything other than the seals when i ordered rebuild kits for my shocks. And being a frugal SOB ive substituted dextron ATF for shock oil with out a problem. Gotta love that almis locker haahahahah

The IFP has 1/4-20 threads. So a long bolt with those threads will work.

I didn't get instructions with my rebuild kit but if you take off the nut that holds the valve shims put it back on with a drop of red Loctite and snug it down and you'll be fine.
The IFP is bottomed out on the Icon shocks. Fill up the shock body then cycle the IFP with your bolt till you no longer get air coming into the body then leave the IFP bottomed out.

I bought the oil from Icon. Not sure I'd recommend using aircraft lndg gear oil in our shocks.

There are some pics in my build thread of me rebuilding these same shocks but not much info.

Thanks man appreciate the info. The oil we use in our landing gear is pretty much just like any old regular hydraulic fluid it just has a higher flash point. I'll take a look in ur build.

Would a 50lb decrease in spring rate make a noticeable difference? I shed my 1/4" steel skids, and was thinking aboutdropping the spring rate down to 650

I was an A&P mech for almost 20 years even had a moment when I accidentally got a mouthful of 83282. At minimum check and see if the viscosity is the same otherwise your shocks may be too soft or too hard depending on the difference between the oils.

Well really that's a total 100lb difference. So yea it could. But you have to ask if you would end up with more preload then too..

I'm looking for a better rear setup. I don't run as much weight as monte but I do run arb fridge, rtt, bed rack, swingout, full 35 spare, 1 gas and 1 water 5 gallon tank.

Currently run allpro expos. Can any one point me in the right direction as far as leafs go...

So that was caused by a longer spring, with less preload, bottoming out?

Just trying to understand so I don't repeat the same mistake.

    LOL

IMO if you want to go spring under axle, get the 50t pack. i have a BUNCH of weight over my rear axle. 2 full size spares, jack, AT LEAST 300lbs of spare parts, tools, ect. it sits pretty good. but once it starts to settle any lower i am going to throw another leaf in or something. its starting to squat a bit on me.
ive been beating on my truck with that pack for like a year now at least, and when i say beating on it, BEAT THE FUCK OUT OF IT.
it has settled at least 2 inches since new.

Totally missed this when I read through for responses the first time. Ya I guess I could use ATF since I can get that at the local napa. I was just trying to not have to pay for fluid since we have so much hydraulic fluid down at the hangar since I am a cheap sob as well.

Any ya I go to the "corner yellow hazmat store" from time to time

Yes. I looked at Eibach's chart and on paper they should work. 18x3" 700 lb rate coils should collapse 8.91" before turning into blocks. There was zero preload on them. The charts are not accurate. You get about 7.65" inches of travel out of them, then the coils touch and boom. Measure the coils with a micrometer, starting from bottom to top and add those measurements together to get block height, don't trust the charts. 650's the same dimension clear on an 8" shock, go figure.

We have the drill bit. It's not too bad with a good drill. Bring them by and I can do them.
