the HDS-5 is a better unit and has an internal antenna, its what replaced the GlobalMap but depending on mounting may require you to run an external antenna which is not cheap. I added the external antenna just to be safe but i probably dont need it.

You can get an Ipad mini for $200 now brand new. I run a full size Ipad but most my friends use the mini, its plenty big enough.

Do you have the 4g version? Or does it work with just the GPS? My iphone always tells me that the GPS signal isnt as accurate if I have cell data off

Leadnav said spring 2016 for the android version of the app. Been running the beta since launch on my iPhone and it's awesome. You can also load your own maps on their app. So I use the California maps and it's pretty awesome for the SD deserts.

Been using motionX maps on an iPad with great success. You can download any map you want. I roll with a road map, topo map, and a satellite map. Can snap pictures and save them to GPS waypoints with notes.

I got one of those SPOT beacon things too, use it to mark spots to map out for later( usually on my Moto) works well for scouting spots

F yea. My dad still uses those things, that's how I learned to navigate. He has it memorized. I'll start looking up and address and he'll be like "page 187, G1 or G2" and he's usually spot on
