Slow start. Still cutting stuff out. Just cut off a section of the dash bar. Chopped off front body mounts. I need to cut open the floor to land the A pillar and also the core support is getting chopped off to poke a tube on each otter edge outside the windshield wipers. I hopefully shouldn't lose any AC vents either. Hoping for a tight fit. This is when I wished I had a plasma

I cut a piece of TAP plastic for the area and used 3M molding tape to secure it. This stuff takes a beating!

Edit. Can't tell by this picture...it's covered with mud.

Almost always scuff if you can before painting anything. Helps with adhesion

I'll keep that in mind. I need to chop off the core support. Nothing more therapeutic than taking a saw:sawzall: to a truck.

Can a few of you guys please give me a few pointers on the bedcage? I'm finding it difficult on the order of how things should progress. I have some ideas of how I want to approach this but could use some veterans advice also. I'm using plates on both sides to bolt through the bed to attach the cage. Tack and build the cage first to the frame, then cut it and put the bed on. Or option 2, put the bed on now and build it. If I do option 2 then how do I figure out the sweet spot for my shocks to mount up top when the templates are drawn off the frame rails? Hope this makes sense and someone can chime in.

I did mine similar to option 1. I built my bed cage first and then split it up to use to clamps to install the bed. While designing the bed cage I constantly took measurements of the bed to make sure they would work together.

The other thing I thought of was to put the bed on now, build, but take measurements before off of certain points that would give me the shocks angle and length to hit the sweet spot up top.

Id ditch the idea of plates. 1st gen beds aren't flat. And the ribs on the floor are metal and unless your going to cut them out and weld it flat then they won't allow the plates of the cage to sit flush and crush it and all sorts of annoying shit.

Just cut holes in the bed

I was thinking that too, that if I tightened the plates down it would start to crunch the ribs on the bed. That helps out a lot blackdawg! Because I think i can build it now to spec (bed off) and just cut the bed out for where the plates can butt up and meet. I want the cage to be removable so I can access under the bed if needed or take the bed off for whatever reason.

Weld to the frame and have your bedcage removable.

Tack the bed cage to the frame, when you're done cut holes in the bed and drop it though, lift the bed a bit and burn it in

Figured I'd post a few photos and a recap from the weekend. Got the truck finished Thursday and took her for a test run around the block and hit the few speed bumps...pretty uneventful so I was a bit nervous hitting the dunes
    7e61d68736b11a15c034fa7f98a51644_1fd1f389457d18c573d7fd451e0b1bb1fdccd389.jpg

Got to the dunes early afternoon Friday and did a shakedown run. The temp sensor for the radiator fan wasn't working so I ended up just hard wiring and ran it off a switch. Did a few laps and immediately knew the hard work was worth ithttps://vimeo.com/167019373 but the rear end definitely needs to be addressed. The 10 year old deavers in the rear are pretty clapped out.

Saturday was the big day, had a great turnout
2e0fa3bc4366c6bb9c3148232503c218_cee22c9c505281b99b77bcf4b2f51e3c0df3cd56.jpg. This picture says it all, the weather was shitty but the turnout was great. Vehicles ranging from full built prerunners to this rusty truck doing about 60 through the whoops. Everyone is here because they all share the same interests...no one talks shit about other people's trucks, it's a really positive group of people which was cool coming from the west coast where everyone's ego and social media fame gets in the way of doing what we came out here to do. Anyway, ran the most laps I've ever ran and drove my truck harder than ever before. Let's just say this new front end is ridiculous. If any of you guys are looking to upgrade your gen 1 front end, hit up TT Motorsports. Here's a few more photos from the weekend, more to come in the next coming months
