no i got open ended lugs since i planned on getting the arp studs.. i could prolly pick up a set of those until the arp's come in though.. but i think i would need to find some with the rounded seat instead of the tapered..

So here is where I am at... I think I am either going to LT this blue beast or move on to a new rig. Either option is very much on the table right now.

What I have (Rides like a wooden wheeled wagon):
    • OME Sport shocks front/rear
    • 885X Coils
    • 3" Dakar rear leaf pack
    • LR UCAs
    What I want:
    • To be able to cruise at 35+ down a washed out road without getting beat up
    • A smooth daily driving ride
    • Highway driving compliance
    • I would ideally NOT have fiberglass fenders
What I am currently looking at (and where I need the help):
    • TC +2 Long Travel
    • Appropriate King or ADS shocks
    • DMZ SUA Kit
What are all of the particulars that I am leaving out? Can I run the rear kit without getting glass? Someone explain limiting straps to me...

    (Potential) LT NEWB HERE!

Nice replacement Coilovers and 2.5" Rear shocks are going to a better bet IMHO. King, ADS, Fox or Icon, just pick your color or brand preference. Pair it with a TC or similar upper arm and pull the second overload from your Dakars.

35MPH down a wash board road doesn't require LT or the maintenance that goes with it. Sprung under with out fiberglass is going to be difficult with the added up-travel.

Yeah I don't think 33's would clear stock fenders with the added uptravel. Pretty sure you can kiss your flares goodbye @memario1214. Alternatively, you could possibly get away with removing the flares and cutting/getting the fenders pulled out.

Limit straps limit your down travel so you don't reach the end of your shocks travel or max out your driveline to the point of damage.

Just add wheelers superbumps and use bump spacers. Problem solved. No nasty cut up fenders. At 35mph on a fire road the extra bump travel won't be needed

Thanks for the replies so far everyone!

So how much performance upgrade will I "feel" by going with the upgraded shock? Do I actually need additional travel out back?

Will removing the overload on the Dakars decrease my ride height/change the rake?

Why don't we need limiting straps on stock vehicles then?

Are bumpstops something worth looking into even if you are not LT?

The performance difference between your OME setup now and a 2.5" coilover with appropriate valving will be significant. Nothing wrong with OME but you need to remember what they were designed for, long weighted down trips through the outback. They lack the refined valving and dampening ability to really be a high performance option. Your sprung over setup in the back is fine, but again swapping to a 2.5" bodied shock is going to be a much more refined ride. Adding compression adjusters will allow you to dial that in even further from the base line that is already in the new shock and adding resis will keep the shock cooler which again equates to a better ride. Yes removing the second overload will change the ride height, but again you need to keep in mind what the dakars were designed for. They are about load capacity, not ride quality.

So I just got off the phone with the guy I use for turbo set ups and he told me he can build me a starter prototype set up for my 2016 Tacoma it would be a twin turbo set up. Only down side is he needs my truck for six months. What to do? What to do? I been with out my truck 2 weeks and I am already going nuts, I could just imagine 6 months. He said this is due to thermodynamics and plumbing. He said he refuses to rush a job and leave it half ass especially when it's the prototype for future builds. He said the earliest he could start is January which is good because that put me past my 6 months no purchase probation. lol Now I have to ask myself am I willing to go 6 months without my truck. Price is decent at my cost considering the inconvenience, but said kits might sell $8-12k for a full kit including tuning.

I do like the votes of confidence here though with staying MT.

I very much appreciate the help on this. Is there a better rear leaf pack option then the Dakars for me then? I mean I do load up the bed from time to time, but I am not towing much of anything. If I do redo my entire suspension I do not want to be cutting corners...

I'm running the MCM setup, ADS 2.5 coilovers with resi up front, deavers u402 leafpack, and ADS 2.5 with resi in the rear and my truck rides smooth even though I could probably change some valving. About 700lbs in the bed with these bike as well

Hey you used to live in Gillette WY and now are in MN? If you're ever back out this way your name is on a ridalong and drive if you like. I'm plenty happy staying MT. I gave a ridalong this weekend to a fellow TW'r and as always it ended with a big smile :)
