So I just built a whole tubular front end/ engine cage, and had a one piece custom made with 4.5" flare fenders and stock hood. Also came to the realization that my cab flops around like an old lady's tits, and the fiberglass will be mounted to a tilt frame on the engine cage creating an issue.

Any ideas for not absolutely destroying my glass with the floppy cab against the rigid engine cage? I haven't been able to find urethane body mount bushings for the tundra (only tacomas and pickups), and a cage isn't an option right now... i'm thinking just floating it all off of the engine cage and hoping for the best, but the cab is loooooooooose through the rough stuff.

    Ideas??

Maybe make a custom set of bushings if you have access to a lathe? Depending on what you want will dictate the material, aluminum, polyurethane, delrin, etc.

IMG_1642.jpg Let me know if you guys know anyone looking for a LT kit for a tundra. I have one for sale. It's a Solo motorsports LT race kit. Paid $3000
    Race spindle paid $1500
    Heim steering upgrade paid $900.
I'm asking $3800 for everything. going to go center mount this winter. The kit has been used but not beaten on, came off of a 2013 tundra with a spring under rear

Yeah i'm hanging the pivot off of bushings so there will be some flex, mostly i'm worried about where the mini fenders attach to the cab and then clip to the one piece. There's no give in the clips, so i figure i can hang the mini fenders off of the engine cage and give them a little room off of the cab, and maybe integrate some bushings to allow more flex. Thats about all i can come up with though..

    Kinda stock
X2 on some custom body mounts. Maybe even sandwich 2 plates between the body with 4 bolts near the body mount ( like a secondary solid body mount). If you stay near the body mount section the cab is about 3 sheets thick. Or even an arm the grabs a large section of the underside pinch weld. It's crazy how much cabs shake around.

Nope. you might have to Flintstone it for a few hundred feet at first, but the master and the booster can be unbolted easily.

Look at Solo and at Kibbetech for their solid aluminum mounts. Very basic and easy to do. Another thing I would suggest if the clips have no give, is maybe use the latches from semi trucks? You can get the rubber ball style (Dorman part number 315-5402) that have much more give than the all metal ones. It's what some of the off road teams used years ago, my pop's trophy truck was running them when we first got it.

Thanks for the line on the solid aluminum mounts, I didn't know they offered those. Good ideas! Tubing is on the way today to build the subframe so I'll keep you guys posted

I am willing to bet the price of the aluminum mounts that if you put them on your truck without a cage you'll rip your cab apart.

Yep... this is why i haven't gone to aluminum body mounts. If anything, i'm going to try to retrofit some urethane mounts, or use a more flexible material to help make up for the clapped out stock bushings.

It's not the $$$ for the cage, I work 50+ hours a week and can only work on my truck from 7-10pm each night. I simply don't have the time to build a full cage right now, and it's not what I want out of the truck. I'm building it as a sleeper that can cruise around comfortably and hit some dirt. If i'm going to pound whoops for miles and miles at 50+ i'm going to be on my bike. I'm ready to have the truck driving and have a life again.

I began mocking up the subframe last night, and I'll just basically be floating the whole one piece off of the engine cage with enough room for the cab to do its thing without raping the glass.

A cage is definitely in the works for later down the line, but my days of beating on this thing too hard are over for now. Now it's basically just an overbuilt desert cruiser. I'm all for a cage, but it's just not in the cards right now for me :(

I'll post pics when it's all hung and see what you guys think. I appreciate all the input thusfar.

Good points. Not bashing, to each their own. Just throwing it in there to save a potentially bigger head ache not to far down the road. I know the stresses of working a ton, I've been doing 60ish hour work weeks since April.
