Make sure you have a spotter with a wet rag and fire extinguisher. That factory seam sealer burns like a sob

Nope. They send shims but the only place they fit is under the bearings. Means another specialty tool if you want to pull the bearings off every time. Much easier to get the "washer plates" as Toyota calls them from Toyota. Only way to do it. Pit the new gears on. Measure back lash. Then guess what shimms you need. I buy the two I think I'll need to offset the carrier how I think then one up in size and one down I'm size.

Guys who do it all the time just stock all 20 or 30 plates in the shop.

Funny this came up. Literally just ordered gears and mini install kit through ecgs. Was gonna do a clamshell but they can't get it done in time for a glamis trip coming up.

you're doing the front? Clamshells just suck in general. Need the right tool to measure the back lash as you have to do it through the diff fill plug when the clamshell 100% bolted up. Then take it all apart to tweak it.

If you aren't doing bearings though, it'll be okay, just tedious. Changing the pinion bearings SUUUUUCKKSS

not gonna work. You can't get a 90 degree contact on the gears, need the adapter for it.

When I was researching clearances for 35s I didn't find a whole lot of people ripping their sheet metal. Those situations seemed to be pretty isolated. Some people make incisions with an angle grinder+cut off wheel into the pinch to make it easier, some don't. A lot of people also spray on rubberized spray on sealant afterwards in case they made any tiny rips too small to see. Personally, I didn't make any incisions, just smacked it out with a 4lb hammer and sprayed on some rubber sealant. Haven't had any leaks, but I don't do a whole lot of driving in the rain anyway being in Socal.

yeah the pinch weld folded right over and is clearanced just fine, its the sheet metal right above the tire that I'm rubbing on now. I think I'm just gonna go to town with a BFH and throw some heavy duty sealant on it to try to keep it together. If that doesn't work...well, we'll see what happens >_<

Ahh I misread your original post, yeah, I've been massaging the top of the wheel well but stopped because like you said, the seam is starting to split just a tiny bit. I'll have to adjust the bump stop down, using the wheel well as a bump stop is a good way to rip it open. :annoyed:

My inner fender liners were beat to crap and welding wasn't going to help. I cut them all out and formed aluminum in place. Held in with pop rivets. I do have flat plate connecting the rad support to the cab. Eventually we're all going to cut them out.

It's too late for me... I was hoping building the Tacoma would put an end to the bug. I already bought a Bronco and start a parts collection of extended TTBs, 4-link, 2.5/3.0s King race series shocks all around, Brembo brakes, LS2, and 4L80 tranny waiting for me to start putting it together. So now I need to button up some details on the Tacoma and onto the market she goes.
