So finally got my drop-off date to have my rear SUA done this coming Monday. It's DMZs kit, 2.5 x 16 bypasses through the bed, with bump stops. It'll maintain the bed. I'm debating where to place the spares, against the cab or at the tailgate. The goal is to run 2 spares (315x70 16) and jack, like everybody else does. I've seen all or most LT trucks run them behind the axle, but those trucks seem more badass than mine.

Do you guys have any advice if they should be behind the axle or in front, with the setup I'll be running?

    Thanks

Sorry not a tire gate, but in front of the gate, into the bed.

With 2 full size anywhere in the bed you're gonna lose a good chunk of your bed space. Just depends on how you're gonna want to be able to utilize the rest of the space for any extra gear

My vote would be rear of the axle so you can tuck gear/ cooler up against the cab

I have a spare laying in the bed now and it's pretty useless with the shortbed. Haha

Yeah I've got my spare in the bed now as well. I'm planning on doing something along these lines to have a swingout and not have the tire hanging too far out the back but also not take up the whole bed. But I also only have one spare. IMG_6136.jpg

You have to pull the UCA bolt out to adjust them. Pull out the bolt, loosen the jam nut and turn as desired. There are limits on how far out you can adjust the UCA out, I would contact your manufacturer to figure out what the limit is.

They influence camber/caster opposite of the LCA. On a second gen, the LCA front bolt is primarily for camber and the rear is for caster. On a heimed UCA the front heim is for caster and the rear is for camber. If you're alignment numbers are good and you don't want to screw around with them I would just leave them alone, it can be a pain in the ass to make adjustments with removing and reinstalling the UCA bolt. If your numbers aren't what you need I would make adjustments as needed.

If you are thinking about increasing caster via the UCA to increase tire clearance it might instead make it worse, as it pushes the UCA uniball closer to the rear of the wheel well.

image.jpg I perfer running it up front so it's easier to get to the beer. If your running 2 spares your pretty much limited to behind the axle unless you stack em on top of each other. Personal preference really

What if you adjust your lowers to push the LCA uniball as far forward as possible and adjust camber/caster via UCA heims?

No this makes perfect sense. So the uppers adjust all of the alignment specs, I am assuming that's why people solid mount the lowers then?

Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure if it's a performance/weight distribution thing, and if that reason would even apply to my build.

    Your truck looks beast!

Exactly why. Then your alignment has no way to get knocked out of whack in the dirt. My very first trip out, my alignment cams moved so we had to do an adjustment just to drive it home. As soon as we got back, my friend heimed the uppers and solid mounted the lowers

Yeah, you can adjust both with a heimed UCA, its just a bit of a pain to do it. On my truck my passenger side is easy, driver side is a pain in the ass to get the bolt in/out. The UCA/coil tower gussets limit the play/movement you have to slide the UCA bolt in and out and the flange on the bolt head hits the sheet metal supports for the battery. To reinstall after adjusting it I end up having to remove the grill and hammer the bolt back in with a long screw driver as a punch from the front of the truck.

Welding the LCA cams would lock it in place and prevent them from moving when offroading. I may think about doing that myself, even with cam tab gussets I still knock my camber cam out of position a lot.

They run the tires behind the axle because they add stability to the truck at speed. A lot of guys prefer the tires behind the axle and fuel in front of the axle because that way they don't have as dramatic of a change in the trucks handling characteristics as the fuel tank becomes empty but still have some weight over the rear of the truck.
