Oh wow that is low. Yeah I run down around 15 for crawling stuff usually, but figured 20-25 might be safer for higher speed desert stuff consistently.

    Anyone else have any input?:notsure:

Thanks. That's kinda what I was thinking and yeah I'm not doing this for short runs, but if it's gonna be a day of wheeling then I will. I'll start at 20 and see how it feels. I just didn't want to be too low when hitting higher speed stuff, but you're saying even down to 10 should be ok. Don't think I'll go that low, but I'll find my sweet spot between 18-25

Same here and I would run 18-25 when I was mid travel. Just didn't know if the speeds that come along with the jump to LT would pose any sort of an issue with lower psi

I mean you can't really just say "this many for this terrain" there's a lot of variables to take in to account. Your average speed, your terrain, type of tire, skill. I mean, at the beach I'm airing down to about 10-15 depending on how brave I'm feeling, and have just been told not to skid the truck sideways too hard or I risk slipping a bead. I still do it, but I know the risk involved. So yeah there's a general range you can probably place on types of terrain, but its all dependent on you. Shit I was at the beach for a while at like 15ish when It was recommended to me to drop to 10, immediately saw a bigger difference in traction.

Not in a Tacoma more than likely. But you could bend or crack wheels. De bead a tire like you were saying.

I cracked a wheel once, didn't even know it happened for like 3 days ha

Yeah definitely don't want to crack a wheel or bend it. So sounds like i just need to keep doing what I already was doing and the upped speed shouldn't really be an issue. That was my question basically.

    Thanks for the input

Tire pressure also affects flat tires. The less air the more the tire flexes on hard hits and puts more of the sidewall on the ground. Doesn't matter as much in pure sand but when you hit a sand deer out of nowhere it can puncture the sidewall, and lower air pressure just makes a puncture easier overall in the tread too. I've blown two Toyos with 10-12 psi in them and both were blown out sidewalls from punctures

Eh its kinda low. But not for my size of tire, its all about volume and i have small wheel. So lots of volume.

I'm on beadlocks so that's why I'll go down to 10. As far as terrain, where I wheel there's sand dunes so I'll go low for traction, graded roads or hard dirt I'll go with 25, sorta of soft/silty but not too sandy I'll go with 18-20. El Paso, TX has all types of terrain. We got sand dunes, 3 foot whoops, fire roads, lots of silt, rocky arroyos, etc. So my pressure will vary dependant on where I wheel. Also on the TT I'll go with lower pressure when the race track has a lot of sandy areas and sand whoops.

I run 10psi when I go out. Like blackdog said it helps with the stupid little bumps. My crawler I run 3 on those creepy crawlers it's like glue on anything it drives on. Kinda wanna get them for the taco when I get a new daily.

    Less length, more girth
12psi fr and 8-10 psi rear. I don't go fast though. Any lower than that and stuff gets stuck in the beads.

Yeah I was more concerned about going fast and hitting big bumps causing a tire to blow/ debead/ damaging wheels.

That depends on your tires size and wheel size.

315/75/16 on 8.5" rims. I think my questions have been answered. I used to air down to 18-25 depending on terrain. Just didn't know about going from hitting stuff at 30 to hitting it at 50 I didn't know if it was gonna be an issue.
