I'm looking to get one also but know nothing about swapping in one. It's just a direct bolt in right, nothing else needs replacing or modding?

Mean Green makes a couple for our trucks. Same price, one is 140 amps then there is a special order at 220 amps. I have spoke with these guys a few times and they told me that 4wp is the dealer for in my area.

Guys, I'm also looking to upgrade my electrical system. Wondering if I install a new High Output Alternator do I need to also upgrade my wiring or should stock be sufficient?!

Stock is fine. If you want to up your grounding strap and your main wire from the positive for safety but you don't need to replace anything else.

Generally if you are running higher amps youll want a bigger cable to go from alternator to battery to avoid overload and voltage drops

    So 250 or 270 Amp?

Price difference is less than $100 but is it worth it or is there a point where you overload the system?

You're not going to overload, but how many amps you really gonna use?

Is the alternator different between 95-04 5 lugs and 6 lugs, and between 4 cyl and v6?

Haven't done any calculations yet, but If I'm going to spend the money for $40.00+ I get 20+Amps.

And well by the end of it there should be...
    - Rock Lights
    - 2 Bumper Lights
    - 3 Reverse Lights
    - Fridge
    - Winch
    - 3/4 Lights (Depending if I decide to run a roof rack)
    - 2 Lights on the sides of the bed rack
    - 2 bed lights (mounted in bed)

    ...too much shit to list.
Take the reverse lights and rock lights out of the equasion as the rock lights ain't shit, and the reverses are only temporary. You've got an additional 545 Watts of power consumed. 545/12 = 45.42 amps of additional load. Keep in mind that HID's take about 2x draw during warm up (which is only a few seconds).

    Factory alternator is 80 amps + 45 = 125 amps.
Add in whatever "buffer" load you see fit for future shit. I'd say you'd be good with a 150 or higher.

    170 amp

    130 amp
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-01-02-03-04-TOYOTA-TACOMA-130-HIGH-AMP-ALTERNATOR-/260682579150?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb1e47cce

Mean Green is $$$$$. Be prepared to spend $350.

The alternator is a direct swap and everything bolts in and connects the same way. HOWEVER, you will have to do an additional upgrade. Factory alternator has a thin 8 gauge wire that runs to the fuseblock under the hood. This is fine and sufficent for running all your factory equipment. You'll want to run an additional fused 4 gauge wire directly from your alternator to the positve terminal of the battery.

If you're like me, you have either a secondary fuse block for all your extra lights which is direclty connected to the battery, or you just have a rats nest of wires all going to the positive terminal of the battery. Either way, they are all drawing strait off the battery which is charged from alternator->fuse block->battery. If you rely on only the 8 gauge wire from the alternator to the fuse block and then the factory 8 gauge wire from fuse block to battery, you'll risk melting that wire from overdraw when all your accessories are on. By adding a 0-4 gauge strand from alternator to battery, the load will take the path of least resistance (your fat ass new wire). You only need like 2 feet of wire and drop in an inline 100 amp AGU fuse and you're set.

While you're at it, run a 4 gauge wire from the negative terminal of the battery to the body ground (its like 4 inches of wire). The factory body ground is 12 gauge. Mine was corroded and broke when when i was just changing the battery out.

EDIT: Fucked up my math. You said 3 100Watt KC lights, i only added up two. Math corrected.
