My doors are the only stock things left besides the headlights
I hit a truck at 40mph...with a solid bumper that was all bolt on and it destroyed the front end lol, second time was a tree around a corner, 3rd one I sold to a friend, 4th and current one i play bumper cars with my friends :))

Just the bolt on stuff you gotta beef up the mounts ALOT for them to be strong enough and not tear and acually have the bumper take the brute of the energy. Hence sandwhich plating your frame with 3/16 down to the firewall, welding it on and toeing it into a engine cage...it wont move now lol...the truck moves.

If you do some hairy rock crawly trails that crossmember gets in the way pretty often

Being in Texas...I know the folks down south got some pretty legit Baja stuff to mess with. I think the argument here is simply that should you get enough air and start to nose over on landing...there is the potential of your bumper hitting face down first. If so, the steeper (vertical) the angle of the face of the bumper the more your ass will be in the air. Depending on the angle of your nose landing and momentum...could be enough to teeter over and flip vs having enough of an angle to come close but have the rear go back down after the impact.

At the end of the day, if your truck never gets to have a true "endo" landing to begin with, then likely this philosophy may not affect you. Not trying to bash, but just offer honest perspective. A good example of this is seeing DTF's bumper pic build, he had a good endo on the face of a dune somewhere on here.

Yeah I suppose 40 MPH will do that. Mine was probably 15-20 but the way the other truck looked it looked like I had been going 60. Mine has brackets that tie into the frame and reinforces it, but the frame could definitely become a weak point.

I had a similar instance where I smacked a concrete barrier at 15 mph. The bumper took the hit pretty well although it was decently contorted...but the supports and shit all around it gave like nothing. I was lucky I didn't smoke my radiator...but yea I would love to atleast get an engine cage down the road as your bumper is only as effective as the supporting structure around it.

@Basikbiker, damn brother that sounds like some rough history to deal with. Just my tard crash alone was a stressful experience to say the least.

Weren’t you 20” wheel car show guy a few months back? Maybe you should stay in your lane and realize many people in this thread have forgotten more about race trucks than you will ever know.

Im sure you’re hammering down with that stock rear suspension

I don’t have any good ones. This is a screenshot from a video. I hope the photographer at the last event I went to got some. Take a side picture of your truck and draw the approach angle out for me plz

You’re also fits the body very well. People on here think your truck has to have a fat lip bumper. If it doesn’t protrude 18” your truck will literally tip over on this forum.

The center of the protractor is where the tire meets the ground. I don’t think 65 degree approach is bad. Let’s see who’s is better

Also the protractor looks angled because the truck is angled in the picture.

I think where the magic happens is when you hit something that is just as rigid or close to your bumper...then you get to deal with the weakest link. Stock vehicle in traffic, probably smoke his plastic bumper and win the fight. A rock, tree, face of something, or mall object (in my case) and it can be drastically different.

I did the basic paper trick on the screen, but assuming I have minimal error it looks like you are more than 70 degrees...closer to 72 if I had to make a committed guess. 18 degrees away from vertical is kind of close.

mines not even made to be tight but mine is literally make for approach angles. if you know anything about rock crawling approach angles are not in the front of the truck, they are in front of the tire... but even then i have a better angle then you cause i dont have anything hanging down and in front of my radiator.. bumper angles straight to the lower control arm mounts. not straight down almost level and then a 90* to the lowers..

Mine dont stick out much and the approach angle isn't crazy...but crossmember is gone and reinforced..tucks that pooch in alot better... my tires hit the rocks or dunes before the bumper...it doesnt catch.

Seriously if yours wasnt as square boxy on the plat it would look 100% better in my opinion
